When it comes to celebrating special occassions like birthdays, I choose to celebrate it simply with the family. My reasons are simple- less stress with the preparation and less expenses but more intimate way to celebrate.
When the husband asked how we are going to celebrate our child's birthday, I told him that I wanted it simple but it should be something that kids get to enjoy.
We decided to celebrate it by having a picnic at the beach with some invited very close friends and relatives. We know how children love the sea so having a picnic would be enjoyable for them. This setup is also favorable for us because the beach is just a few walks away from the house. So it's convenient and economical for us. 😁
So, it was early afternoon and the sun was up. The weather was beautiful. The tide was high and there was just a little area at the beach where we could set up our tent. This tent was a christmas gift given to my kids from their grandparents last christmas. We were glad we could finally be able to use it outdoor. They were very excited about it. They love playing with the tent indoor, so taking it outdoor sounded so much more fun for them.
We set it up and tied it next to the Talisay tree where there was shade. After setting up the tent, the father and the birthday celebrator bonded over grilling pork and hotdogs. Eversince they tried this last christmas, this has become their favorite activity together.
This is one of favorite moments. I love seeing my child and the father bond together where one teaches and the other one watch or listens. It's heart warming to see.
After some life skills and life lessons at the grill, the kids couldn't resist the tempting wavy large sea. It's crashing sound is like a voice to hear calling them, inviting to have a dip and enjoy the cooler water on a hot, sunny day.
I only watch them with joy and nostalgia as I remember my childhood self who loves to be in the sea but couldn't because we'd end up scolded by the parent. 😅. Those days when a little spanking is ok. The spanking did not hurt. It hurts more that I could not enjoy to my heart's content the refreshing sea. 😁
While watching my kids enjoyed swimming, they wanted me to join in the fun. Though I didn't want to because of the scorching heat of the sun and I was not able to apply sunblock, I couldn't say no to these kids request. So, I end up dipping in and enjoy the waves too.
Kids love it when parents play or swim with them. For me, that's the most important part in celebrating special occassions like birthday, letting them feel your presence and bond with them on their happiest moments. It really is not just how grand the celebration is but I believe our presence is way more important and memorable for our kids. When they get older they will not remember all the details like the people, the gifts, the food, the things that were there but they will not forget how we made them feel as their parent during this special moments.
