- Introduction
Today I went for a seminar which was organized by women to teach their fellow women some things that are going on around them. We had three seasoned teachers who taught on different things and they all did justice to what was assigned to them. For this blog, I will be sharing just the lessons I learned from the first teacher and I'm going to share the other lessons in different individual blog because they all spoke from different areas . The first lesson was based on our diets, how women no longer care about what they feed their household with mostly because of their busy lives nowadays.
In the course of the lesson, we were able to learn that the security we place on food has now reduced and we no longer care too much of what we give to our children to eat especially this part of the world, Nigeria. Here in Nigeria, parents are very quick to buy biscuits, sweets and drinks for their children once they start crying or disturbing them just to escape their troubles and due to this, they don't even give time to checking the contents of what they give to their children to consume as long as the children are okay with it.

Now parents don't get to train their children anymore as they should, instead it seems like the children are now the ones to tell the parents how they want to be trained and that is because right from the start, most parents neglect the little things concerning their family especially the children because they are very busy looking for the daily bread for their family. Buying these things for our children is never the problem, but then our apathy towards knowing what these things contain is becoming really alarming.
Most parents like getting so many food stuffs stocked in the house because they are capable of doing so and because of this, most mothers find it hard to prepare good food for the family, instead they result to fast-food almost everyday, just to save themselves from stress of a busy day. It is not really easy as a woman working and still getting home to do all the work of a care giver at home, it takes only a virtuous woman to do that and it's obvious we have just few virtuous woman around.
- Benefits of being food conscious
In every processed food we buy for the home or for our children, we should always be conscious of the ingredients and recommendations written on them so we won't give our children food that are not safe for them. You must cultivate the habit of reading the labels, directions and ingredients and others before giving it to our families to consume. We should start taking our food security seriously as it will help us in so many ways;
Some of the children around us today are very young but when you see them you will easily mistake them to be adults because of their physical appearance. The reason is mostly because of the kind of food they are exposed to right from an early age. Of course there are some other reasons but then, this is one of the major reasons.
Giving our family the right diet at the right time will help them to grow very healthy and you will realize they hardly ever fall sick because the food they eat helps them build a very active immune system and this helps to fight all the diseases trying to get inside the body.
As a mother, when you have known how the diet of the family should be like, it will help you reduce the cost of living because you no longer have to spend money on some unnecessary things because now you have a pattern you follow in feeding your family which is healthy and safer.
There are many other things I got to learn from the seminar but then I have summarized them here on this post and I hope it reaches you in good spirit and I hope you give it a second thought and try your best as a parent especially mothers to be more careful and watchful of the food we give to our families especially our children.
