When it comes to taking care of children, it has always been something I enjoy doing a lot and there are even sometimes I want to go the extra mile of considering applying for a job as a child caregiver. But then, I’m still young and I have a whole life ahead of me, so that idea just didn’t fit. But then, the moment I get any opportunity to take care of children, I give my all to it just to make sure they are happy and comfortable. For some, they only start enjoying being around children when they have theirs and that is also fine.
Taking care of a child can be really hard especially as a first time mother or father but then, it most times gets easier as more children come. For over a decade now, I have been very interested in taking care of children and because of how interested I am in taking care of them, I have had quite a lot of experience in handling them. I have been privileged to take care of different kinds of children and with every child I spend time with, there is always something new to learn because most children are different.
What makes one child happy is different from what excites another child. As a parent or a guardian, caring for a child needs a lot more than just being their parents or guardian. You have to develop a lot of skills just to make sure your child is well attended to. Like I said, for first time mothers and soon to be mothers, this is especially for us. Children are fragile and hence they need a lot of attention and care, as much as we can give to them.
As a mother that is left alone to take care of her child, I know how hectic it can be and if you are not so lucky, that might even cause you to break down. But then, I really hope that most of us mothers have some one around especially for our first child who can help with a few things so we can get enough time to rest and also spend with our child. So, in this post, I will be sharing a few things that can help make our motherhood journey easier and more enjoyable. So without further ado, let’s discuss.
As a mother, there are some qualities you need to have if you want your motherhood journey to be a lovely one. And they are;
Being very observant: As a first time mom, you don’t even need to work so hard to have this but if you do, then you should put in more effort to make sure you have this quality. Like I mentioned earlier, children are fragile and sometimes they act in some funny ways and if you aren’t observant, you might miss that and you might not even realize it again for a very long time. And also, remember that every child is different, so if you have plans of treating the second child the way you treat the first child, it might not really work that way.
Seek for help: Seeking for help can’t be overemphasized. If you are lucky to have your mother around, it becomes even easier sometimes as you can ask her some questions of how she was able to manage through some phase of motherhood but if you don’t, it’s also fine to ask others who have been there before you and are doing a good job. Don’t ask just anyone, but make sure you ask someone who you know can give answers to your questions.
Be patient: As a mother, being patient is something that you need to cultivate because children can be overbearing sometimes. Most times they do this because they really have some discomforts while other times, it’s as if they just want to be that way for no reason and that is why you need to be patient with them. Normally, a child should cry when they need something, maybe just your attention not minding whether or not you are busy and this can be really frustrating sometimes but as a mother, you just have to be patient with then.
Be cheerful: Mothers should always try to be cheerful as it affects how they treat those around them not to even mention their children. Being cheerful will help you be patient with your child more than when you are moody. You have to even act like a child most times just to make your child happy and engaged. Being moody will only make things harder for you and your baby.
As we all know, it’s the second day of the year 2025 and this is a good time to do better if you haven’t been doing so. Motherhood is not easy but you can at least make it fun for yourself and also for your child with these few tips that I have shared with you. One of the easiest ways to be a great mom, is to be intentional about your decision to be one.
