Snapshots from the big day!
Hello everybody! My name is Julia, otherwise known as "Blogging for Birdseed", and I'm writing to you from Cape Town in South Africa!
Disclaimer: I wrote this on 4th August 2022, but I’ve only recently stopped procrastinating, created a HIVE profile and joined up. So, this is now a snapshot of the past! I hope you will enjoy this journey with me!
The Birthday Party
...Was it worth it?... 100% yes.
...Am I still exhausted five days later?... Also yes!
The event kicked off at 6am when I got up to do the first round of birthday prep: Decorate the cheesecake with a caramel topping, set up the kids’ party table, fix the bunting which had dropped to the floor, blow up balloons for the gate, give the birthday girl her breakfast…
Just after 8am, the wonderful Sally arrived bringing with her about 50 beautifully iced sugar biscuits, along with a “can do anything” attitude, and she quickly got to work icing the huge coffee chiffon cake (we baked this beauty on Thursday and kept it wrapped up tight in its tin).
At 9:00 am two more pairs of willing hands walked in, one armed with a camera, chocolate cupcakes and a surprise chocolate cake, the other walked in with an orange cake and homemade pink and white sugar cubes.
The birthday girl was dressed, I was dressed, everything was coming together perfectly just in time...
At 10:00 am all of the guests arrived, and to my delight only two people cancelled on the day. Good thing we catered for 60 people anyway!
It was a perfect party, the final guests left at 4 o’clock that afternoon and everyone went home with a slice or two of something, and I had happy reports that the children enjoyed their party packs and had a lovely time.
Planning an edible design for the top of the main birthday cake...
...so that the cake landed up looking like this...
...and it wasn't very long at all before our guests were helping to cut a few slices and show off the rainbow pink layers!
Next year’s party won’t be as big, and I’ll chose a theme that is popular and easy to find things for...maybe mermaids or llamas, just 360 days to go!
