City of Melton Asian Themed Market

This weekend my family and I had the pleasure of attending the City of Melton’s Asian themed market, an event that brought tens of thousands of people together to celebrate Lunar New Year. The atmosphere was electric and filled with the sights, sounds and aromas of Asia. A first of it's king in Melton and it created an unforgettable cultural experience for our entire family.

From the moment we arrived the marketplace popped and came to life with Stalls offering everything from handcrafted goods to specialty food items. All surrounding the rich and diverse cultures of Asia. It was incredible to see so many local Asian market holders coming together to share their traditions, craftsmanship and most importantly their food!

One of the highlights of the event was the vast selection of goods available for purchase. As we wandered through the market my kids were fascinated by the lanterns, traditional clothing and beautifully handcrafted souvenirs. Although we are seeing a rise in 3D printed items which were also really cool to see.

Local artisans and vendors proudly displayed their work, from ornate jewellery pieces to calligraphy art that captured the essence of the Lunar New Year. It was a great opportunity to support small businesses and learn about the meaning behind many of the items being sold.

No Asian-themed market would be complete without an array of delicious food, and this event did not disappoint. The tantalizing aromas of sizzling street food filled the air, making it nearly impossible to decide what to eat first. Food trucks and stalls served up a mouthwatering selection of Asian cuisines, ranging from Chinese dumplings and Vietnamese pho to Korean BBQ skewers and Japanese takoyaki.

My partner and I opted for a hearty serving of pad thai from a Thai food truck while our kids lined up for bubble tea, picking out their favourite flavours and toppings. The highlight for me, however were the crispy Peking duck pancakes expertly wrapped with hoisin sauce and fresh cucumber.

the entertainment at the event was nothing short of spectacular. A large stage was set up in the heart of the market where cultural performances took place throughout the day. Traditional Chinese lion and dragon dances had the audience in awe with their rhythmic drumming filling the air as the dancers moved in perfect synchronization. Everyone enjoyed the performances mesmerized by the lions especially when they came up close to interact with the crowd.

Overall was a wonderful weekend event and we'd like to wish all those celebrating a Happy Lunar New Year
