Do Kind People Make More Money?

Do Kind People Make More Money.png

People who are altruistic tend to have higher life satisfaction, more children, and earn more money than those who are selfish. However, many people believe that selfish people have higher incomes, which is not supported by research. So why is this?

It could be because altruistic people (those who think of others before themselves) are generally more satisfied with life, and this satisfaction is reflected in their work. Kindness also tends to gain favor among others, leading to better job opportunities and advancement.

The UK Household Longitudinal Study found that altruistic people had more children and increased income over time. A similar American study found that top altruists had the most children and highest income over a 14-year period. Two other studies found that moderately prosocial people tended to have the largest incomes.

The study found that those in the top bracket of altruism - 25% of the sample, had the most children and the highest income and saw a more significant increase in income than those classified as selfish.

Whatever the reason, it's clear that being kind pays off - both in terms of your personal happiness and wallet.

It Pays to Be Generous

It Pays to Be Generous.png

Generous people tend to earn more money and experience faster income growth. Building strong social networks through generosity can create new job opportunities. However, moderate generosity is more effective than extreme giving for financial success. Selfish people underestimate the financial benefits of generosity and mistakenly believe that selfishness leads to higher income. In reality, selfishness hinders success while helping others brings personal benefits.

Hi Greg I just joined Hive few days ago and I read your post about Being Kind can help you earn money and I definitely agree all you have said. I wanna share my experienced one time my husband took me me to Triple A he was inquiring for our trip while my husband was talking to the lady in the desk. I decided to look around the merchandise they have but the lady she stopped me and told me that Im not allowed then I told her that I am a triple A member and I might buy if I see something I like she still told me no but I seen customers walking around but I am not allowed. I know my money is nothing and she maybe seen me below average person and I am not from US , but I wish She treats everybody fair and Be Kind to All Customers and I'm Sure they will make money by treating their customers with Respect and Kindness.

I am so sorry that you experienced such awful treatment by this person, nobody should be treated in such a way.it doesn't matter where someone is from, or if they are going to purchase something or are just looking. Thank you for sharing, and I am sorry this happened to you.

Rebuilding HiveBuzz: The Challenges Towards Recovery

None of these statistics surprise me. Seeing the difference in the way customers respond to someone who makes it look like they don't want to help anyone compared to someone who clearly DOES shows me all I need to see. I always make a point to look welcoming when a customer walks in, and many, many times I've seen how it makes the exchange much better. Just imagine how much better the world would feel if more people made the effort to be a more friendly person!

Absolutely, I used to have to deal with customers at Home Depot who may have spent several thousands of dollars on a kitchen remodel that went wrong. It happens. Initially, I was afraid of talking with them, but in the end, I took problem situations from other department managers too. People just want to be acknowledged, treated with respect, and heard.

I always made sure I gave my name twice, so they knew I was not trying to shirk them. I allowed them to say what they felt, empathized with them, and asked permission to contact them back later that day after I took whatever actions and made whatever phone calls and sent emails that I could. I always promised to get back to them within a certain time that day, even if I had no more information. I would get back to them and state that, and what the next steps were. In the end, unhappy customers became happy customers and some of the best advertisements money could not buy.

When I was in management there, we had a figure of a customer's worth in terms of how much a customer's lifetime spending would be - $75,000. It always amazed me seeing someone being jacked around over a dollar or two at checkout lines or other situations at other retail establishments. You are really going to lose a potential $75,000 over a dollar or two!

That was in a past lifetime LOL!
