Hello friends! I have written before about writing to seniors via the groups Letters Against Isolation and Love For Our Elders, and I know some people around the world would like to join in but paper mail isn't reliable/too expensive/not a thing everywhere.
At the same time, the LAI site lists several languages that they need letters in for seniors who speak languages other than English (the recipients are in the USA, Canada, England, and Australia), and just from what I've seen, those requests seem to be filled less (there is a filter you can apply when looking for where to write, that will show you facilities that didn't get all their requests filled the previous round, and the other languages are often on there. During the holiday season when almost all requests were filled, the only ones left at the end were some non-English ones, because among the volunteers no one or not enough people spoke those languages).
Sooooooooooo I thought I would try and solve both of those issues, at least a little, with a contest!
How To Enter
If you speak any of these languages:

...write a letter to a senior in that language. It must be at least one page long. The seniors are often in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, or are Meals On Wheels recipients (for non-Americans, Meals On Wheels is a volunteer group that cooks meals and dishes them out into individual containers, and then delivers several meals to seniors who are still in their own homes but are homebound and/or too unwell to to keep up with all the chores/cooking/etc. of life. They can put the meals in their freezer or fridge and then just reheat them later). You don't have a name of a specific person to write to, so I just address mine "Dear Friend," at the top. Sign it with your first name/nickname, not your Hive handle.
POST YOUR LETTER IN A COMMENT HERE, and I will paste it into MSWord, print it out, and mail it to them on your behalf! :) That way, seniors can get a letter in their native tongue, and y'all don't have to worry about paper mail. If you're saying things that you don't want to be public in the letter, on PeakD we have the messenger service on the top right of the screen, you can direct message me the letter and just comment that you sent it so I know to go look for it.

Ideas For Letters
Write as if you were writing to a friend. Talk about your day, your pets, your kids, something funny that happened, your hobbies, your work, your garden, your favorite book. Whatever you think would make them smile and give them a sense that other people think of them and care about them, and give them a connection to the outside world instead of just being limited to being homebound and lonely or in a care home without any visitors.
Write and comment your letter in the next week,

PS, I know some of those languages are possibly vague, like, there are lots of Chinese dialects, but the only info I have is from the site so I can't clarify on those ones, sorry

Ideas para letras
Escribe como si le estuvieras escribiendo a un amigo. Habla sobre tu día, tus mascotas, tus hijos, algo gracioso que haya sucedido, tus pasatiempos, tu trabajo, tu jardín, tu libro favorito. Cualquier cosa que pienses les haría sonreír y les daría la sensación de que otras personas piensan en ellos y se preocupan por ellos, y les daría una conexión con el mundo exterior en lugar de limitarse a estar confinados en casa y solos o en una residencia de ancianos sin visitas. .
