Among my favorite genres is not comedy, but from time to time it is not superfluous to give yourself the opportunity to see a movie or two, the choice of this one came among the proposals offered by the Prime Video platform, so my husband and I gave it a chance, also to rest from a long series we are watching and allowed us to see something different.
Space Novel
Already by name you get an idea of what the film is about, but basically we meet a woman who was admired by many of her classmates at school because she went out of the ordinary to find solutions, after 10 years she attends with her best friend to a reunion with her schoolmates and realizes that she was stuck, since due to family problems she did not attend college.
Determined to change this situation, she applies to NASA, since her dream since she was a child is to go to space, what she didn't count on was that her best friend would change all the information she was thinking of sending.
Now, we see how this comedy leads us to see the people in charge of the selection as very inflexible and hard people who consider that only those who meet certain requirements can become astronaut candidates.
In the same way, they let us see how many times a person who does not fit the established or expected standards can look out of place, you will know what I mean if you detail the style of dress of the protagonist, but also lets us see how the mutual support between colleagues and friends can make a difference to achieve the goals.
From my perspective it is not to die with laughter, but it will make you laugh with some of its points and also think a little about how sometimes we annul ourselves to fit into the system, denying all or part of what makes us unique, but this is not the only message, also the value of being honest, because as expected the protagonist is discovered and expelled, but in the end it turns out that her way of being out of the ordinary and her contacts allow her to make her dream come true.
As for what I didn't like, is the childish way in which they chose to represent both the protagonist who is nicknamed Rex and her best friend, I guess they want to tell us that not going to a university may not let you mature completely or they were trying to introduce us to people with Peter Pan syndrome, or it was their way of pointing out why she didn't fit in NASA, which apparently she didn't realize or didn't give a damn about.
The cast includes Emma Roberts (Julia Roberts' niece), Caroline Concannon, Tom Hopper, who precisely because he is English is given that nationality and that snooty touch, Gabrielle Union, Poppy Liu, Desi Lydic, Sebastian Yatra, Troy Iwata, Dave Foley, Kuhoo Verma, among others.
This movie doesn't really have, as you may have noticed, a surprising plot, it is predictable and the script is not the best written, it is lukewarm and at the end I don't know if it is a comedy or a romantic comedy, but without a doubt it leaves us a message, it is not one of the movies I would watch again, but as I said it was an option for a pause or a change of genre.
Entre mis géneros favoritos no se encuentra la comedia, pero de vez en cuando no está de más darse la oportunidad de ver una que otra película, la elección de esta llego entre las propuestas que te ofrece la plataforma Prime Video, así que mi esposo y yo le dimos una oportunidad, también para descansar de una larga serie que estamos viendo y nos permito ver algo diferente.
Novata Espacial
Ya por nombre se da una idea de que versa la película, pero básicamente nos encontramos con una mujer que era admirada por muchos de sus compañeros en la escuela porque salía de lo normal para encontrar soluciones, pasados 10 años asiste junto a su mejor amiga a un reencuentro con sus compañeros de la escuela y se da cuenta de que se quedó estancada, ya que por problemas familiares no asistió a la universidad.
Decidida a cambiar esta situación, se postula a la NASA, ya que su sueño desde niña es ir al espacio, con lo que no contaba era con que su mejor amiga cambiaría toda la información que ella pensaba enviar.
Ahora bien, vemos como esta comedia nos lleva a ver a los encargados de la selección como personas bien inflexibles y duras que consideran que solo los que cumplen con ciertos requisitos pueden convertirse en candidatos a astronautas.
De la misma manera, nos dejan ver como muchas veces una persona al no encajar en los estándares establecidos o esperados puede lucir fuera de lugar, sabrán de lo que hablo si detallan el estilo de vestir de la protagonista, pero también nos deja ver como el apoyo mutuo entre compañeros y amigos puede hacer la diferencia para alcanzar las metas.
Desde mi perspectiva no es como para morir a carcajadas, pero si te hará reír con cosas puntales y además pensar un poco en como a veces nos anulamos para encajar dentro del sistema, negando todo o parte de lo que nos hace únicos, pero este no es el único mensaje, también el valor de ser honesto, porque como es de esperarse la protagonista es descubierta y expulsada, pero al final resulta que su forma de ser fuera de lo común y sus contactos le permiten hacer su sueño realidad.
En cuanto a lo que no me gusto, es la forma tan infantil en la que eligieron representar tanto a la protagonista quien lleva por apodo Rex y a su mejor amiga, presumo que nos quieren decir que el no ir a una universidad tal vez no te deje madurar por completo o estuvieron tratando de presentarnos a personas con el síndrome de Peter Pan, o fue su forma de señalar porque no encajaba en la NASA, de lo cual al parecer ella no se daba cuenta o le valía madres.
En el elenco contamos con Emma Roberts (sobrina de Julia Roberts), Caroline Concannon, Tom Hopper, quien justamente por ser Inglés aprovechan para darle en la película esa nacionalidad y ese toque estirado, Gabrielle Union, Poppy Liu, Desi Lydic, Sebastián Yatra, Troy Iwata, Dave Foley, Kuhoo Verma, entre otros.
Esta película realmente no tiene, como abran notado, una trama sorprendente, pues es predecible y el guion no es el mejor escrito, queda tibia y al final no sé si es una comedia por completo o una comedia romántica, pero sin duda alguna nos deja un mensaje, no es de las películas que volvería a ver, pero como dije fue una opción para una pausa o cambio de género.
