The truth is that lately Netflix has kept me very glued to its programming since the catalog it offers is very rich and there are many options to choose from, but while reviewing it I realized that there was a period series, something that caught my attention, especially when it comes to the history of Latin America, also, after watching the series Bolivar, an admirable campaign, I was eager to see something the same or similar, so Las Villamizar fell like a glove, so I will leave you my opinion in this post.
La verdad es que últimamente Netflix me ha mantenido muy pegada a su programación ya que el catalogo que ofrece es muy nutrido y hay muchas opciones para elegir, pero mientras lo revisaba me di cuenta de que había una serie de época, algo que llamó mi atención, sobre todo tratándose de la historia de América latina, además, luego de ver la serie Bolivar, una campaña admirable, quedé con ganas de ver algo igual o similar, así que Las Villamizar cayó como anillo al dedo, por lo tanto les dejaré mi opinión en este post.
The series is set in 1916 in New Granada, the territory now known as Colombia, and takes place in a time of war, where insurgent groups are acting increasingly boldly against the Spanish crown. Gerardo Villamizar is a criollo (that's how people born in the Spanish colonies were called) a rich landowner who has insurgent ideals but acts cautiously, from the shadows, while his wife Beatriz, although she agrees with him, tries to keep him away from trouble and suspicion, however, Colonel Montenegro, a Spanish military, despot and bloodthirsty, infatuated with Beatriz begins to besiege and pursue her, being rejected again and again by her, but on one occasion, drunk and mad with rage because of the constant rejection he goes in search of the woman to bother her, but things get out of control in the middle of a typical scene of struggle with a gun, which accidentally goes off taking Beatriz's life, but the matter does not end there, but Colonel Montenegro and his men murder the woman's employees and emerge victorious in the trial after declaring that they were the ones who killed the woman (making him a hero for having killed the alleged murderers).
La serie está ambientada en 1916 en la Nueva Granada, territorio que hoy en día es conocido como Colombia, y transcurre en una época de guerra, donde los grupos insurgentes actúan cada vez de forma más atrevida contra la corona española. Gerardo Villamizar es un criollo (así les llamaban a las personas nacidas en las colonias españolas) un hacendado rico que tiene ideales insurgentes pero actúa con cautela, desde las sombras, mientras que su esposa Beatriz, aunque está de acuerdo con él, trata de mantenerlo alejado de problemas y sospechas, sin embargo, el coronel Montenegro, un militar español, déspota y sanguinario, encaprichado con Beatriz comienza a asediarla y a perseguirla, siendo rechazado una y otra vez por ella, pero en una ocasión, borracho y loco de rabia por el constante rechazo se va en busca de la mujer para molestarla, pero las cosas se salen de control en medio de una típica escena de forcejeo con un arma de fuego, la cual se dispara accidentalmente quitándole la vida a Beatriz, pero el asunto no termina allí, sino que el coronel Montenegro junto con sus hombres asesinan a los empleados de la mujer y sale victorioso en el juicio luego de declarar que habían sido ellos los que asesinaron a la mujer (quedando él como un héroe por haber acabado con la vida de los supuestos asesinos)

My opinion about the series
The first thing I would like to mention are the locations, the series has beautiful settings, it shows that they do not record in recording studios but in real settings both outdoors and indoors, colonial houses, churches of the time and of course in places with exuberantly beautiful nature such as fields, forests, mountains, meadows and rivers. For this reason the series has a very beautiful aesthetic with the typical charm of those years.
Lo primero que me gustaría mencionar son las locaciones, la serie tiene escenarios bellísimos, se nota que no graban en estudios de grabación sino en escenarios reales tanto en exteriores como en interiores, casas coloniales, iglesias de la época y desde luego en lugares con una naturaleza de belleza exuberante como campos, bosques, montañas, praderas y ríos. Por esta razón la serie tiene una estética muy bonita con el encanto típico de esos años.
Needless to say, the costumes are wonderful because they are obvious, it is something obvious, unlike the Bolivar series, it is noticeable that there was more work at the level of historical context in terms of the costumes, since each outfit corresponds to that timeline, according to what I have been able to verify when seeing some paintings from that time, but also on this occasion there was also the challenge of designing a costume more in line with the girls' alterego, one that was comfortable to be able to fight and handle weapons, without losing the style and grace of At the time, it was something absolutely brilliant, a job worthy of professionals.
Sobra decir que el vestuario es maravilloso porque salta a la vista, es algo evidente, a diferencia de la serie Bolivar, se nota que hubo más trabajo a nivel de contexto histórico en cuanto al vestuario, ya que cada atuendo corresponde a esa linea de tiempo, según lo que yo he podido comprobar al ver algunos cuadros de esa época, pero además en esta ocasión también se sumaba el reto de diseñar un vestuario más acorde al alter ego de las chicas, uno que fuese cómodo para poder pelear y manejar armas, sin perder el estilo y la gracia de la época, fue algo absolutamente brillante, un trabajo digno de profesionales.
The performances are brilliant, everyone really shines in their role, and I must also applaud the decision to choose a suitable cast, that is, they brought Spanish actors to play the soldiers, as it should be, there is no actor imitating accents, but one of the performances that I liked the most was that of Rodrigo poison in his role as Colonel José María Montenegro, he has a lot of poise but he also brings arrogance and imposingness to the character he played, making him totally despicable.
Las actuaciones son brillantes, de verdad que cada quien se luce en su papel, y debo además aplaudir la decisión de elegir a un elenco acorde, es decir, trajeron actores españoles para interpretar a los militares, tal como debe ser, no hay ningún actor imitando acentos, pero una de las actuaciones que más me gustó fue la de Rodrigo poison en su rol del coronel José María Montenegro, tiene mucho porte pero además le aporta una arrogancia e imponencia al personaje que interpretó haciéndolo totalmente despreciable.
However, not everything is rosy, of course there are some details that I don't like, for example there are some scenes that I consider too vulgar and unnecessary, like the one where Isabella Villamizar has intimate relations on the street with Julian Montenegro, someone she was meeting that same night, but not only is it an unnecessarily explicit vulgar scene, but it is also not at all credible that, especially at that time, a girl who is supposed to be a young lady from New Granada high society, was in such a situation. attitude in the middle of the street and with a stranger, that is, it destroys the idea of how a spy should behave in her condition, that could give her away. On the other hand, she is too impulsive and constantly puts the mission at risk by defending personal causes.
Sin embargo no todo es color de rosa, por supuesto que hay algunos detalles que no me gustan, por ejemplo hay algunas escenas que considero demasiado vulgares e innecesarias, como esa donde Isabella Villamizar tiene relaciones íntimas en la calle con Julian Montenegro, alguien a quien estaba conociendo esa misma noche, pero no solo es una escena vulgar innecesariamente explícita, sino que además no es para nada creíble que, sobre todo en esa época, una muchacha que se supone es una señorita de la alta sociedad neogranadina, estuviese en semejante actitud en plena calle y con un desconocido, es decir, echa por tierra la idea de como debe comportarse una espía en su condición, eso podría delatarla. Por otra parte es demasiado impulsiva y constantemente pone en riesgo la misión por defender causas personales
