Today I bring you the continuation of my series of posts about cinema known as CINÉFILAZ as a play on words between the words “Cinéfilo” and my artist name “ILAZ”; today the movie I have decided to bring you for analysis is one that really has a lot of very interesting elements to make a very epic dialogue.
Today it's my turn to tell you about a movie called “Abigail” which left me with many particular things that I'm going to mention here, because everything looked too good, but you can't judge a book by its cover, this movie makes it clear, so, without further ado, let's start!

El día de hoy les traigo la continuación de mi serie de publicaciones sobre cine conocido como CINÉFILAZ como juego de palabras entre las palabras "Cinéfilo" y mi nombre de artista "ILAZ"; hoy la película que he decidido traerles para hacer el análisis es una que de verdad tiene un montón de elementos muy interesantes para hacer un diálogo muy épico.
Hoy me toca hablarles sobre una película que se llama "Abigail" la cuál me dejó muchas cosas particulares que voy a mencionar aquí, porque todo pintaba demasiado bien, pero no se puede juzgar un libro por su portada, esta película lo deja en claro, así que, sin más que agregar, ¡comencemos!

El contenido que verás en esta reseña está basado en mi criterio personal luego de haber visto la película/serie en cuestión, así que, si no has visto la misma, te recomiendo que no continúes leyendo a menos de que quieras llevarte varios spoilers de la trama.

The Plot
The plot of the film starts off a bit curious, we are shown a group of people who sign up to commit a crime of kidnapping a little girl from her home to ransom her father, something that would seem like a basic and classic thriller, each criminal has a personal touch to bring to the group and they all have a particular past, but I'll talk about that later.
When the girl is kidnapped, she is taken to a house where she will be held captive until her father pays the ransom, and curiously the leader of the crimes is none other than Giancarlo Expósito, the legendary actor who gave life to the legendary character “Gustavo Fring” from the series Breaking Bad; he shows them the house and tells them to be very attentive to her at all times.
It turns out that as time goes by, things become very dark and chaotic, people begin to die and everyone starts to wonder why and it is simple, the girl who was kidnapped whose name is “Abigail”, it turns out that she is a vampire girl, and her father is a legendary mobster that many people are afraid of, so things become very difficult for the characters in the film.
La Trama Principal
La trama de la película comienza siendo un poco curiosa, nos muestran un grupo de personas que se apuntan para cometer un crímen de secuestrar a una niña pequeña de su casa para pedir el rescate a su padre, algo que nos parecería como un thriller básico y clásico, cada criminal tiene un toque personal que aportar al grupo y todos tienen un pasado particular, pero de eso hablaré luego.
Cuando secuestran a la niña, la llevan a una casa donde la van a mantener cautiva hasta que su padre pague por el rescate, y curiosamente el líder de los crímenes es nada más y nada menos que Giancarlo Expósito, el mítico actor que le dió vida al legendario personaje "Gustavo Fring" de la serie Breaking Bad; este les muestra la casa y les dice que estén muy pendientes de ella en todo momento.
Resulta que a medida que pasa el tiempo, las cosas se van tornando muy oscuras y caóticas, empieza a morir gente y todos se empiezan a preguntar el porqué y es simple, la niña que secuestraron cuyo nombre es "Abigail", resulta que es una niña vampira, y su padre es un mafioso legendario que muchas personas le tienen miedo, por lo que las cosas se tornan muy difíciles para los personajes de la película.
What I DID like
1.- The dynamics of the plot
Something that I really liked is the fact that the plot never gets heavy, you always want to see and know what's coming next even though you get that plot twist that makes things happen that can no longer be considered normal and therefore, add a touch of absurdity to the events; it is kept at a fairly dynamic pace that keeps you very entertained.
2.- The Cast
The amount of good actors that were sought for this movie was incredible, we have Angus Cloud (may he rest in peace), who we know for his iconic role of Fezco in Euphoria; Kathryn Newton, who we can see as Cassie Lang, the daughter of Ant-Man in Marvel in her adult version; Kevin Durand, who I met as Harbard in the series Vikings; Dan Stevens, who I met as David Haller in the series Legion and so on, in short, an elite cast that left me very impressed as the film unfolded.
The personality that each one gave to his character was very good, there were particular touches of humor and very serious situations that unfolded in a great way because each one knew how to make his character something iconic and unique.
3.- Special effects and makeup
For this kind of movies generally something that should predominate a lot is the good use of artistic makeup in combination with the special effects, I must say that in that part they were not incredible, but they do leave you with a good feeling when watching the movie, I feel that they did not disappoint at any time although there were some characters that looked very strange as vampires, a simple example is this one:
Unfortunately Giancarlo Expósito was not born to be a vampire, this part I must admit gave me a rather negative feeling and to delve a little into this fact, let's go with the things I didn't like.
Lo que SÍ me gustó
1.- La dinámica de la trama
Algo que me gustó mucho es el hecho de que la trama en ningún momento se pone pesada, siempre tienes ganas de ver y saber qué es lo que viene más adelante a pesar de que luego te dan ese giro argumental que hace que ahora sucedan cosas que ya no pueden considerarse normales y por ende, le agregues un toque absurdo a los sucesos; se mantiene en un ritmo bastante dinámico que te entretiene mucho.
2.- El Elenco
La cantidad de buenos actores que se buscaron para esta película fue increíble, tenemos a Angus Cloud (que en paz descanse), el cuál conocemos por su papel icónico de Fezco en Euforia; Kathryn Newton, a quién podemos ver como Cassie Lang, la hija de Ant-Man en Marvel en su versión adulta; Kevin Durand, a quién yo conocí con el papel de Harbard en la serie Vikingos; Dan Stevens, a quién yo conocí con el papel de David Haller en la serie Legion y así sucesivamente, en definitiva un elenco de élite que me dejó muy impresionado al momento de ir desarrollándose la película.
La personalidad que cada uno le puso a su personaje fue muy buena, hubo toques de humor particulares y situaciones muy serias que se fueron desenvolviendo de una manera genial porque cada uno supo hacer de su personaje algo icónico y único.
3.- Los efectos especiales y el maquillaje
Para este tipo de películas generalmente algo que debe predominar muchísimo es el buen uso del maquillaje artístico en combinación con los efectos especiales, debo decir que en esa parte no fueron increíbles, pero sí te dejan una buena sensación al momento de ver la película, siento que no decepcionaron en ningún momento aunque habían algunos personajes que se veían muy extraños como vampiros, un ejemplo sencillo es este:
Lamentablemente Giancarlo Expósito no nació para ser vampiro, esta parte sí debo admitir que me dio una sensación bastante negativa y para ahondar un poco en este hecho, vamos con las cosas que no me gustaron.
What I DID NOT like
1.- The final plot twist
I found this to be one of the most absurd and annoying things in the movie because literally this character was the one who fought Abigail the most in order to take her down and keep the main character of the whole plot safe, I knew that this character's personality was very blatant because he was a retired ex-cop who was tired of the world and that's why he decided to become a criminal, but the fact that he then wanted to become the ultimate villain at the end left a bitter taste in my mouth.
In addition, the fact that, in a totally convenient way Abigail allied with the protagonist of the plot because she was the only one who “treated her well” during the development of her captivity was something that seemed to me totally crazy, it was even quite absurd that a vampire with many years handling her powers was not able to stand up to a newly created vampire but the protagonist could do it with a good Deus Ex Machina, I did not like that resolution.
2.- Giancarlo Exposito's Character
Giancarlo's character, known as Lambert was supposed to be the “boss” of the criminals who really ended up being an undercover vampire to feed Abigail and her father, but he also had his own ambitions and in the end he didn't even last 10 minutes in the scene because he was killed in a totally stupid way, if he was supposed to be too brilliant as a boss and well Machiavellian as a vampire, why was he so stupidly neglected to be killed by the one who ended up being the villain of it all?
I feel like Lambert was a waste of a script in every way, that part ultimately took away a lot of good things I had in my mind about this movie.
Lo que NO me gustó
1.- El plot twist del final
Esto me pareció de lo más absurdo y molesto de la película porque literalmente este personaje fue el que más luchó contra Abigail para poder acabar con ella y mantener a salvo a la protagonista de toda la trama, yo sabía que la personalidad de este personaje era muy descarada porque era un ex-policía retirado que estaba cansado del mundo y por eso decidió meterse a criminal, pero el hecho de que luego se quisiera volver el máximo villano al final me dejó un sabor amargo.
Además, el hecho de que, de forma totalmente conveniente Abigail se aliara con la protagonista de la trama porque ella fue la única que "la trató bien" durante el desarrollo de su cautiverio fue algo que me pareció totalmente descabellado, inclusive fue bastante absurdo que una vampira con muchísimos años manejando sus poderes no fuera capaz de plantarle cara a un vampiro recién creado pero la protagonista si pudo hacerlo con un buen Deus Ex Machina, no me gustó esa resolución.
2.- El personaje de Giancarlo Expósito
Se supone que el personaje de Giancarlo, conocido como Lambert era el "jefe" de los criminales que realmente terminó siendo un vampiro encubierto para alimentar a Abigail y a su padre, pero también tenía sus propias ambiciones y al final no duró ni 10 minutos en escena porque lo mataron de una forma totalmente estúpida, si se supone que él era demasiado brillante como jefe y bien maquiavélico como vampiro, ¿por qué se descuidó tan estúpidamente para ser asesinado por el que terminó siendo el villano de todo?
Siento que Lambert fue un desperdicio de guión en todo sentido, esa parte en definitiva me quitó muchas cosas buenas que tenía en la mente sobre esta película.
Conclusions
When I saw the announcement of the movie, it caught my attention for several reasons, the vampire theme looked good, I liked the makeup, they showed Abigail's character as a ballet dancer with a killer instinct, it seemed to me a very curious plot but I didn't really expect the script to loosen so much at the end.
I feel it could have been much better, but in the last third of the movie they damage everything they had built, and I have a fairly flexible criteria, it was disappointing, however, I don't think it was terrible, they just didn't know how to take advantage of the script to sustain something coherent until the end.
Let's keep growing and making the love for cinema grow!
Conclusiones
Cuando vi el anuncio de la película, me llamó la atención por diversos motivos, la temática de vampiros se veía buena, el maquillaje me gustaba, te mostraban el personaje de Abigail como una bailarina de ballet con instinto asesino, me parecía una trama muy curiosa pero no me esperé realmente que aflojara tanto el guión al final.
Siento que pudo haber sido mucho mejor, pero en el último tercio de película te dañan todo lo que habían construido, y eso que yo tengo un criterio medianamente flexible, fue decepcionante, sin embargo, no pienso que haya sido malísima, simplemente no supieron aprovechar el guión para sostener algo coherente hasta el final.
