I thought I had seen it all in the initial sequel of 'Enola Holmes (2020)'. I never expected that my experience would be much more thrilling and intense with the second sequel. I thought it would be what I expected but it actually surpassed my expectations and I super was impressed.
You know, most atimes when we watch films that are franchises with a few sequels, some installments usually disappoint us while others impress us. In Enola Holmes' case, the first and the second installment were quite impressive for me. I hope that the third installment will be released soon because I am curious to know what Enola ventures into next but to put myself out of misery, I will be reading book series instead or I will grow old waiting for Netflix.
'Enola Holmes 2 (2022)' is a mystery and adventure movie that was set in the Victorian era. The movie was distributed by Netflix, directed by Harry Bradbeer and written by Jack Thorne. It was adapted from 'The Enola Holmes Mysteries book series that was written by Nancy Springer' but the actual story of this installment was inspired by a historical event that took place in 1888 when the matchgirls' strike happened due to toxicity of their work environment which was killing them. It starred, Millie Bobby Brown, Henry Cavill, Helena Bonham Carter, Louis Partridge, Hannah Dodd, David Thewlis, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Susan Wokoma, Serrana Su-Ling Bliss, Adeel Akhtar, and Abbie Hern.
Brief Summary Of The Plot.
Continuation from the last and initial installment, Enola decided to be a boss of her own when she started her own detective agency and optimistic that everything will start off easily for her. Unfortunately, it was not the case for her because back then women had no say or power in the society then which resulted into lack of client. It was more humiliating when all the potential clients taught she was a man or asked for her brother Sherlock Holmes instead. No potential client wanted to leave their case in the hands of a young woman who was finding her place as a detective on her own in the society.
Soon, Enola folded up her detective agency when there was no hope of find a client who needed her services. On the day she was packing up her office things, fate seeked her out with a young girl Bessie who brought the case of her missing sister to Enola. Bessie hoping Enola would take her case, she offered the penny coins her missing sister, Sarah Chapman left behind for her before she disappeared, but Enola rejected the payment.
Determined to find Sarah, Enola decided to take the case. Then something unexpected happened when Enola was about to go dig up clues as to how Sarah went missing. She encountered her brother Sherlock been thrown out of a bar drunk and wasted. What a coincidence? So Enola took her brother to his apartment on Barkers street and discovered her brother's latest has been a problem for him the best detective in London. Why did their paths crossed? Will Enola find Bessie's missing sister?
My Favorite Characters.
Henry Cavill as Sherlock
In the last sequel, we didn't see much of Henry, but in this sequel his present was full felt. Though, he acted as a serious, resilient, grumpy and blunt detective here, I think his role was more explore in this sequel. We were actually introduced to the Sherlock Holmes and what he is best at doing. We were also given some insights on how started as a young detective. We saw beyond his grumpy mood. I enjoyed his performance all through because it reminded me of his role as the Witcher, hmmm.
Helena Bonham Carter as Eudoria and Susie Wokoma as Edith
These two characters are just like the spice and sauce of this sequel. Their presence towards the ending was unexpected for me. They both came and delivered stellar performances. Their performances was thrilling and fun to watch. I was excited to see both of them because I have always wanted to see more of them.
Sharon Duncan-Brewster as Mira Troy
Sharon's performance as the secretary to Lord McIntyre and the disguised villian was absolutely brilliant. I couldn't predict she was actually the antagonist before hand and her character was written in a unique way that entails puzzles, mind games, twists and turns. Above all there was a fantastic mystery to her character and it was FUN! to find out she was the villian. Amazing performance!
Millie Bobby Brown as Enola
Saving the best for the last! Brown performed exceptionally well in the last sequel but in this sequel was quite amazing as we got to see how she developed from a baby detective to a mature one. She was shape with challenges and obstacles that came her way. Now I can say, Enola has a lot to offer us in the future. Her performance was fantastic, I enjoyed watching her because she was engaging, and good with her role.
My Review And Rating.
The director Bradbeer did an amazing job with this installment which made the movie more thrilling. The last sequel was quite exciting but this installment was fully packed with more action, chasing and it was fast-paced. The directorial style which contributed in making this movie more appealing and engaging to the viewers was brilliant.
The plot/story of the movie was written well in a very imaginative and creative way. The story of the movie was packed fully with intense mystery, plenty of twists, decoys of villains and puzzles. It was told in an engaging way with Brown talking to the camera just made it more easy to relate with the movie. Let's not forget the powerful themes this movie explored like, women's right of equality, societal issues surround women, Justice, deception and love.
The Cast of this movie is extremely good that one could easily notice the chemistry between them. They all acted their roles well. The location was good for the story of the movie. The scene arrangements were perfectly done which I find appealing when I was watching the movie. The costumes used was befitting for each character role. Also, the cinematography crew did a fantastic job. The visuals was amazing, even during the night scenes, it was all shot properly with good lighting.
In my opinion, this second installment was much more interesting, fun, thrilling, action packed, and filled a little more with comedy than the initial sequel. Rating this movie, I will give 4.9 out of 5 stars. I really enjoyed it. It was much more and I will proudly recommend this series to anyone who love mystery films. Very entertaining!. If you are yet to watch it, hurry now and watch this wonderful series.
