Hello movie lovers! How did you spend the last weekend? ❤️
I know that since it's Halloween month most likely everyone plays horror games and watches scary movies, but while I've never been a fan of this genre no matter if we talk about movies or games, I do need a very good reason to make this compromise and get in the mood with the holiday even for just a couple of hours.
So while Halloween is not officially celebrated in Romania but only have a few themed parties here and there where people come with all kinds of costumes but without taking everything too seriously with decorating their houses or playing the trick-and-treat thing, I decided to have a quite chill weekend with my boyfriend because the upcoming weekend will be spent with my family and then go on a very awaited journey outside of Romania. But more about that when the moment comes! 🤐
Nevertheless not only that I didn't watch or play any horror games and/or movies, but I did the opposite, watching a comedy that I was looking forward to come out but somehow I forgot about it until it was featured on HBO Max and reminded me about it.
Introduction
The movie I'm going to share my review for this week is called "The Lost City" which has Sandra Bullock amongst the main actors of the movie along with Channing Tatum and Daniel Radcliffe.
I don't know about you, but I personally love Sandra Bullock and every time I see her featured in a movie, I mostly think that it's another successful comedy film with her as the main actor, but it's important to say that Sandra played in other great movies too which weren't comedies, remembering Bird Box and The Unforgivable that impressed me down to tears. So no doubt we are talking about a great actress that can successfully pass any challenge in the movies industry.
What not many people know though, is that Sandra Bullock is quite the opposite of the roles she plays, being a pretty depressive person who fights with anxiety for many years which also made her not turn in one of those actresses who are engaging with their fans on social media that can be updated with her personal life or what she does between movies. Hence why I only hear about Sandra just once every 2-3 years until a new movie with her comes out.
Description
Anyway, while Sandra Bullock fails terribly in making herself a happier person, she definitely knows how to do the magic and make people share a smile even from the first moment she appears on the little screen, so do expect to see that from the beginning of the movie which presents her as a successful writer that goes to a gala where she promotes her newest release.
Though, as the movie is far from being a serious film but more of a parody or comedy that comes with lots of fails and stupid things, Sandra won't disappoint her fans and will get in embarrassing situations again, but not alone. Now if you are asking who's the one the actress is going to share the funny scenes with, it's no one else but Channing Tatum who represents the male model from her book cover.
Personally, when I hear about Channing Tatum, I instantly think about the Step-Up movies where he surprised me with many cool dance moves, so I'd never see him acting in a comedy movie until I watched "The Lost City".
Though, as much as I get to enjoy the acting of the two great actors, it's hard not to mention Brad Pitt too which I'd love to see having a bigger role in the movie rather than keeping the screen busy for just 20 minutes, but at least Daniel Radcliffe made its way amongst the main actors and let us discover him one more time in a different role than how most of us remember him, namely, from the Harry Potter movies.
However, until we get to the main action of the movie, we will have to endure the kidnapping of Sandra Bullock by Daniel Redcliffe and his little army that is a little psycho in search of a lost city who thought that Sandra is the best one to unravel the mystery due to the book written with the same title but also because she can decipher hieroglyphs which is a big advantage.
As always, there is a thin line between unravelling the mystery and running to save your life, but it also represents the best scenery for lots of challenges, funny moments, and stupid ideas that will share a few more smiles on peoples' faces. So cheers to that!
Opinions
Personally, I loved to see so many great actors in a single movie, as well as discovering new talents of Daniel Radcliffe that had a negative role, as well as Channing Tatum that got to play in a comedy movie, because it sums up the minimum necessary for great results and a nice movie to watch no matter if it's at the cinema or from the couch.
Though, even if the film is marked with the comedy tag, I didn't feel the movie as funny as it could be, or as "The Proposal" and "Miss Congeniality" were, also having Sandra Bullock as the main actress. I don't know if this thing was because of the past movies seen with Sandra that weren't comedies, or just because of my mood, but overall I enjoyed every minute of it and I think it deserves to be watched by more people.
Conclusions
If you are looking for a movie that is full of different events and sceneries, then keep in mind that "The Lost City" has everything from explosions to cars falling into the abyss, exotic backgrounds, fire shots, and volcanoes, but also hidden spots that will make you think of Indiana Jones, so there won't be too much time to get bored of the movie very quickly.
But if you are looking for a more frank opinion, I still believe that "The Lost City" is amongst the worst comedies seen lately which can only be saved by the big actors that will pop on the screen. So if you are in the mood to laugh a lot, then "The Lost City" is definitely not the right movie for that, but if you enjoy an adventure movie with some funny moments, then it's worth your time.
Have you seen "The Lost City"?
And if so, how much you enjoyed it? Am I the single one who didn't have a lot of laughter as I expected?
