Hola amigos cinéfilos y seriéfilos. Esta es mi segunda participación en la comunidad de #Movies&TVshows. Había querido dar mi opinión sobre un programa de televisión que vi hace casi dos meses, y la verdad es que siempre fallo en darla porque me aterra ha, ha, ha.
Como miembro de la comunidad LGBTQ siempre ando en busca de películas y series que brinden apoyo con contenido LGBTQ. Es por eso que cuando Netflix anunció esta serie sáfica, no les mentiré, me emocionó.
Sin embargo, no todo es bonito. Desde el momento de su estreno supe que era un proyecto que no tendría oportunidad de seguir por mucho tiempo.
Pero bueno, hablemos un poco de esta serie.
Hello cinephile and seriephiles This is my second participation in the #Movies&TVshows community. I had wanted to give my opinion on a TV show I watched almost two months ago, and the truth is I always fail to give it because it terrifies me ha, ha, ha.
As a member of the LGBTQ community I am always on the lookout for movies and series that provide support with LGBTQ content. That's why when Netflix announced this Sapphic series, I won't lie to you, I was excited.
However, it's not all pretty. From the moment it premiered I knew it was a project that it wouldn't have a chance to follow for long.
But well, let's talk a little bit about this series.

First Kill
First Kill estaba basada en la historia corta de Victoria Schwab del mismo nombre.
La historia se centra en Juliette Fairmont (Sarah Catherine Hook), una vampira que logra pasar desapercibida en la preparatoria y Calliope Burns (Imani Lewis), una cazadora de monstruos que también acude a la misma escuela. Entre una mezcla shakespeariana y lo moderno, Juliette y Calliope recrean la épica contienda entre familias al enamorarse la una de la otra.
Por un lado, tenemos a los Burns intentando arrasar con todos los monstruos, incluyendo a vampiros, y luego a los Fairmont, vampiros que caminan durante el día e intentan pasar desapercibidos llevando una vida relativamente normal. Claro, todo esto se ve afectado cuando las chicas se enamoran y juntas deciden mantener lo que las une sin importar los lazos familiares.
First Kill was based on Victoria Schwab's short story of the same name.
The story centers on Juliette Fairmont (Sarah Catherine Hook), a vampire who manages to go unnoticed in high school, and Calliope Burns (Imani Lewis), a monster hunter who also attends the same school. Between a Shakespearian mix and the modern, Juliette and Calliope recreate the epic feud between families as they fall in love with each other.
On the one hand, we have the Burns trying to wipe out all the monsters, including vampires, and then the Fairmonts, day-walkers vampires who try to go unnoticed by living a relatively normal life. Of course, all this is affected when the girls fall in love and together decide to keep what unites them regardless of family ties.
Opinión/Opinion
Primero que nada, no soy una experta en crítica cinematográfica, pero soy capaz de dar una opinión basada en lo que conozco.
Desde muy joven he estado en toda esta onda de lo sobrenatural, sobre todo en cuanto a vampiros se trata. La primera serie de televisión que vi con este tema fue Buffy, La Caza Vampiros. ¿Quién no conoce a Buffy? Y luego pasamos a su spin off Angel. Tenemos a Drácula, Van Helsing, Entrevista con el Vampiro, The Vampire Diaries, The originals, etc.
Siempre me ha gustado este tipo de historias, es por eso que cuando supe que Netflix no solo se arriesgaría con una nueva serie de vampiros, sino que aparte la pareja principal eran dos chicas, no dude en darle una oportunidad.
First of all, I'm not an expert in film criticism, but I am able to give an opinion based on what I know.
I've been into this whole supernatural thing since I was very young, especially when it comes to vampires. The first TV series I watched with this theme was Buffy, The Vampire Slayer. Who doesn't know Buffy? And then we move on to its spin off Angel. We have Dracula, Van Helsing, Interview with the Vampire, The Vimpire Diaries, The originals, etc.
I've always liked this kind of stories, that's why when I knew that Netflix would not only take a risk with a new vampire series, but also that the main couple were two girls, I didn't hesitate to give it a chance.
Ahora, todos sabemos que estamos en 2022, plena era digital, donde toda la cinematografía se basa en gráficos, buenos efectos, y CGI de primera clase. Pero también hablamos que no siempre sucede en algunas producciones, y hay casos donde esta alta tecnología no juega un gran papel. Eso lo podemos ver en la presentación de dichos monstruos en la serie; zombies, ghouls, hombres lobos…
Aunque la serie trata más de cómo estas chicas sobrellevan la carga de cometer su primera muerte; para Juliette es beber de un humano, y para Calliope es matar a un monstruo. La historia se centra en ellas, en su historia de amor.
Si eres fanático de los grandes efectos especiales, déjame decirte que esta serie no es para ti. Hay que saber apreciar la historia antes de despellejarla. Para mí fue como volver al pasado, volver a ver Buffy la caza vampiros en casa después de clases.
Now, we all know that we are in 2022, full digital era, where all cinematography is based on graphics, good effects, and top-notch CGI. But we also know that it doesn't always happen in some productions, and there are cases where this high technology doesn't play a big role. We can see that in the presentation of such monsters in the series; zombies, ghouls, werewolves....
Although the series is more about how these girls cope with the burden of committing their first kill; for Juliette it's drinking from a human, and for Calliope it's killing a monster. The story focuses on them, on their love story.
If you are a fan of great special effects, let me tell you that this series is not for you. You have to know how to appreciate the story before skinning it. For me it was like going back in time, re-watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer at home after school.
Algo que me gustó, fue ver reflejada la diversidad sexual de los personajes de una forma normal, nunca hubo un punto donde se discutiera de forma discriminante la orientación sexual de las protagonistas, por el contrario, todo sucedía sin muchos tabúes.
Después que terminé de ver la serie de ocho episodios supe que no tendría oportunidad. Supe que la crítica la destrozaría, y que no importaría la cantidad de personas que la vieran, o si tenía el apoyo de toda una comunidad entera. Supe que así como empezó terminaría.
Por esa razón, cuando hace tres días supe de su cancelación, no fue una sorpresa para mí, y tampoco hubo decepción, ya que sabía que era algo que pasaría en cualquier momento dado.
Something I liked, was to see the sexual diversity of the characters reflected in a normal way, there was never a point where the sexual orientation of the protagonists was discussed in a discriminating way, on the contrary, everything happened without many taboos.
After I finished watching the eight-episode series I knew it wouldn't stand a chance. I knew it would be trashed by critics, and that it wouldn't matter how many people watched it, or if it had the support of an entire community. I knew that the way it started, it would end.
For that reason, when I heard about its cancellation three days ago, it was not a surprise to me, and there was no disappointment either, as I knew it was something that would happen at any given moment.

Dejó mucho qué desear, y no es la mejor serie del mundo, pero no me arrepiento de haberle dado una oportunidad.
It left a lot to be desired, and it's not the best series in the world, but I don't regret having given it a chance.
