While holiday seasons can be enjoyed in several interesting ways, real Cinephiles will always like to add some Movies or TvShows to the list of things that would punctuate their holiday celebration. I know all about that because I'm also a Cinephile.
It sure has been way too Iong since I wrote a Movie or TvShow centric post. This means that I have a whole lot of TvShows in my list which I would be reviewing when I get an opportunity to do so.
Today, being the first day of the year, is a day I decided to wrap up with a post about one of the most anticipated sequels of this year.
Yeah... Squid Game is Back for real.
It has already been over a year since the show got approved for a second season. I remember seeing a teaser of the cast list for the second season of the show when it was first released. I saw that and immediately knew I would be tunning in for the second season of the show.
We also had some returning characters like Lee Jung-Jae, Lee Byung-Hun, Wi Ha-Joon, Gong Yoo, etc.
It's interesting to see how the suspenseful last scene of the first season was used as a pickup spot to build the prequel of the show. The second season immediately kicked off from that scene and introduced 3 years time jump afterwards.
I particularly appreciate that because we (fans) equally had 3 years time gap between the first season and the latest one.
The second season was released as 7 episodes. The show will be fully wrapped up in the third season which would be released at some point this 2025. That's a Netflix thing though. The information on ground is that the filming of the show is already completed. However, Netflix decided to divide that into two seasons.
That explains which the 7 episodes of the third season felt more like the first half of a show. It's not a deal breaker though... Not for me!
Of course, it would have been so much better to get the full release this holiday season. We (fans) would like to have that. However, I understand the business side of the show which Netflix is trying to milk.
Is this sequel worth giving a watch?
C'mon!
You know this is Squid Game, right?
It sure is worth giving a watch. I've already watched the second season which I prefer to just call the first half of the season. I'm looking forward to the remaining episodes which would be released in a yet to be announced date within this year.
The first game of the second season is "Red Light Green Light".
It was also the first game of the first season. However, things took a turn for the rest of the games that were played in this season of the show. That change was somewhat expected in order to make the show exciting for the audience and tough for Gi Hun who's a returning player.
The producers of the show are spot-on in their storytelling. When I noticed that the first game of the second season is the same as what was played in the first season, I paid good attention to see how the director would manage to still make it interesting for the viewers who already knew what to expect from the game. They didn't disappoint at all.
I wouldn't like to draw a comparison between this prequel and the first season of the show. However, what's quite obvious in this prequel is that the cast list is a lot more solid and filled with A-list actors in Korea. They didn't sit back on the budget.
As someone that predominantly watches Kdrama, I'm glad that Squid Game got this prequel. I also hope the show will be fully wrapped up with a banger that will override the performance of the first season of the show.
Thanks For Not Missing Any Full-stop or Comma.
