Since the beginning of this year, I have been really into anime, but recently after hearing that the boys season four was out, I decided to check it out. That got me out of my anime era a bit, so I started exploring more series to watch. I came across this Netflix series and decided to give it a shot.
I had a good feeling about it because it is a series movie, and most series are usually interesting
This series, Supacell, was created by Rapman and released on 27 July 2024. First of all, let's break down the title. Supacell because it is about individuals with Supacell and it enables them to do supernatural things. What is fascinating is that these abilities stem from sickle cells, which can be either awakened or may remain dormant forever.
Rapman explained in an interview That the series is to raise awareness about sickle cell anemia, which is pretty cool and inspiring.
CONTEXT
The series currently has just one season with six episodes. There are five major characters, each getting one episode mainly about them, with the final one bringing all of them together.
The main characters:
Michael is just a delivery guy in South London who later finds out he has this strange ability to see into the future. He has a fiancee whom he cherishes and loves deeply.
Tazer is the leader of a small gang in South London. He stayed with his grandma because his mum was taken. Tazer later discovered he could turn invisible and thinks it’ll give him an edge in his rough world.
Sabrina is a nurse and she lives in South London with her troublesome younger sister. She discovered her telekinetic power which makes her move things without touching them after she angrily threw her cheating boyfriend off without touching him.

He was broke and he could not afford to get things for his son and his monthly child support. He discovered he had a supernatural strength after he angrily broke an atm due to insufficient funds.
Rodney is a small drug dealer who sells weed and drugs on the streets of South London. He stayed with his friend after his mom abandoned him and got married to his stepdad.
Summary:

His future self warned him that the only way he could avoid it was to find Tazer, Sabrina, Andre, and Rodney before the mysterious hoods got to them. The hoods are the people after their powers.
Michael embarks on a difficult journey to unite them all, hoping to change the grim future he saw and save his fiancee's life. He manages to down everyone except Andre, who got captured by the Hoods before Michael can reach him. The remaining four then face a fierce battle against the Hoods, leading to both triumph and loss. The battle brought the five of them together but Despite their efforts, the very fate Michael wanted to avoid came to pass as he watched his fiancée die. The event gives a drastic change to them all, driving them to band together and look for a way to survive and uncover the real culprit behind the tragedy.
MY OPINION AND THOUGHTS
Supacell is a compelling series. The concept is impressive and well-scripted. I would say it's a combination of drama, crime, superhero, thriller, and a little romance because Michael and his fiancee had a beautiful relationship.
Also, each character felt authentic, and each actor played their role well and naturally.
Supacell focuses on superheroes in a different and unique concept. It seamlessly blends the typical superhero story with social commentaries in a way that feels both unique and impactful. It portrays the daily life in South London while seamlessly incorporating superpowers in a relatable way.
Each character’s struggles are real and grounded, which allows viewers to connect more deeply with the story and its heroes.
The most amazing part is the plot twists. Omg, it was epic and unpredictable. —seriously, who would’ve guessed Michael’s fiancée wouldn’t make it? The tension and suspense kept me on the edge of my seat throughout.
Lastly, allow me to praise their cinematography and effect, it was flawless, and the soundtrack perfectly harmonized with the whole story. Which enhances the whole experience beautifully
CONCLUSION
Supacell is a fantastic series that's definitely worth your time. I highly recommend it if you are a fan of drama, crime, or superheroes. I'd rate it as high as 9/10 for its creative storyline and concept, stunning visuals, and well-played characters to mention a few. I'm looking forward to the season two release, I'm sure it will be as amazing as the first. Rapman and his team really outdid themselves, and I would love to see more of his work.
