How well do you know your partner and friend?
It can be quite strange to know that we might spend a large amount of our time with a person and still not know them completely, talk more of marrying them. I remember having a funny conservation with a friend of mine where we argued that it is totally impossible to know a person completely, that is knowing their ins and outs, secrets, and most especially their past deeds. I was of the opinion that is quite true, even if we spend a large amount of time with them, we might still not know much about them. It's like trying to have a conservation with a person who is unwilling to open up to you, you will try as hard as you can but yet you will just hit a milestone. Although she gave valid reasons why it could be possible, like using a couple as a case study. She used that form of relationship that each person involved in the relationship should be the number one go-to person to the other person. Well, that is how a good relationship has been pictured to look like but here is the thing, the picture painted is quite different from the reality we experience.
I got to think about all these and the thought of not knowing a person well enough got me a bit weary of how funny things can be when it comes to matters relating to human beings and their secrets after watching Mark O'Rowe's 2018 movie titled THE DELINQUENT SEASON. The movie stars Cillian Murphy, who happens to be an actor I hold with a high estimate right from watching his hit series Peaky Blinders. I have to say his acting comes with this subtle and gentle flare that just keeps you glued to your screen most of the time when he is on set or is it the way he makes use of his Irish accent when giving out his lines in a movie? Ideally, there is no doubting the fact that he did a spectacular job with the Pearky Blinder series which also contributed to the series being a hit worldwide and receiving awards. Currently, he has an upcoming movie scheduled for later in 2023, titled Oppenheimer, which I will definitely review once I lay my hands on it. As in most films, you need other co-stars, which brought the likes of Catherine Walker playing the role of Yvonne, Andrew Scott as Chris, Eva Birthistle as Danielle, and Lydia McGuinness as Orla.
The Delinquent Season talks about two separate couples who become friends through the existing friendship bond of their wives. Danielle and Yvonne happened to be friends in which they try to make their husbands friends with one another also. It was quite expected for Yvonne to share her marital problems with friend Danielle since she happens to be her closest friend but the upsetting twist comes into play when Yvonne explores the deep sexual desire she has for her friend's husband, probably due to her friend may have portrayed her husband as the best husband a woman could ask for. Honestly, it was a bit shallow of her but well who am I to judge, like they say it takes two to tangle. Therefore Danielle's husband was also in on the affair as well.
A resonating lesson that stuck with me while watching the movie is that people are most vulnerable when experiencing difficulty or challenges in their life. It can't be excluded how we tend to make more mistakes after committing the first one, then blaming it all on our sexual desires or gratifications. As I hold,
only time can help all wounds or mistakes but can it be forgotten?
Check the movie and see how you feel about it.
