This movie / Documentary only really crossed my radar on 2 Days ago while watching a belgian podcast on the best Movies/Tv of 2024. There it was at #1 for best tv of the year and they were talking lyrically about it. So I already had listened 3 people talk about it for 10-15 minues which kind of made me know all the details and good parts of the movie in detail.
I did end up watching it last night quite late while I was already a bit tired on my laptop as the file was not working on my tv. It's also good that it was a documentary as a normal movie had to take it up agains Paris, Texas which was the last movie I watched and that one blew me away.
The Greatest Night in Pop (7.2/10)
Spoiler-Free Movie Plot:
"On January 28th 1985, dozens of the era's most popular musicians gathered in Los Angeles to record a charity single for African famine relief. Setting egos aside, they collaborated on a song that would make history.
"
This is a movie I would say can't really spoiled in any way or form as I pretty much knew everything that was going to take place and all the funny parts while it still was enjoyable to watch.
So it's about the making and recording of the We Are The World song which apparently took place at one night after the Music Awards in Los Angeles where most of the stars of that era came together and recorded the song. It's mainly told by Lionel Richie who actually is sitting in the room it was recorded wich brings a small but very nice twist (if you can even call it that) at the end. There are many aspects I liked about this one including The Check your ego at the door sign as I can imagine how much of a task it is to get all these big stars working toghether.
As a Michael Jackson fan, I always saw We Are The World as kind of his song but overall he isn't that overly present in the film which was a small dissapointment. There are some great pieces in it especially where Bob Dylan didn't really perform until Steve Wonder in Bob Dylans voice showed him how he should do it which was followed by Bob Dylan doing the Steve Wonder impersonation of himself.

So overall I enjoyed watching this one even though it also didn't really blow me away. It was nice to get a behind the scene view of everything that took place that night. Near the end though, you have heard the 'we are the world' so many times that I was a bit done with it. I do guess that your age highly influeces how much you enjoy this movie and I can see how older people 48+ enjoy it way more than younger people 30-. Overall as a 42-Year-Old it was a nice viewing experience and I give it a respectable 7.2/10
