(Can you spot me and my cousin?)

On Tuesday, I was able to attend a private screening of the movie, OPPA at Midvalley. This is thanks to the Marketing Director that invited me to watch. This was also the first time I ever watched a private screening and I found out that you can book one cinema room for 75 pax for around RM1887. I was able to bring my cousin because my boss wasn't able to attend. Sadly, this movie is not in the theatres anymore. I think they will only be inviting for private screenings but when it was released, it was in the movies for a few days or a week if I'm not mistaken Anyways, I will be covering my thoughts on the movie but let me give a short introduction about the movie.

OPPA is a Malaysia made film with a budget of around RM1-2 million. The main purpose for the film was to spread awareness about scams. There is actually one Korean that plays the OPPA and his name is Kang Tae Oh. He's known for his role in Extraordinary Attorney Woo which is a kdrama. The rest of the cast were Malaysians if I'm not mistaken. Something interesting is that they collaborated with the Royal Police so the police in the movie is the real police. Lastly, all the scenes were filmed in Malaysia if I'm not mistaken.

Plot
In short, it's about a female teacher that falls for a love scam. The movie shows different points of view so you can see what it's like from the scammer, the one being scammed, the friends and family of the one being scammed and even the police.

Thoughts On The Movie
Honestly, it's not the best movie ever but I think for the budget they had, it was good enough. I think it would've been better if they acted with the voice instead of voiceover in the post production as sometimes the dialogue wouldn't match the mouth. For this movie though, I think the most important part is getting the message across which I feel they succeeded in. The movie was able to show how scamming worked. I liked the moral of the movie and how realistic it is. I feel that the movie portrays accurately how love scams are being done. They are preying on lonely people that lack love and exploiting them

Conclusion
OPPA is not a super amazing movie but I'd recommend to watch it at least once. I like how it's a Malaysian made film and that it's educating people on scams. It was also cool that the movie uses Malay, Chinese, English and Korean in the dialogue.
