Senior year is one of the sweetest period in high school not just because you are basically almost done with school, but because of the freedom and activities that are attached to it. Some of the activities which includes prom is probably every girl's dream. I actually learned about this movie from my sister. She always talked about it, so I decided to check it out to know if it was really worth the hype.
El último año es uno de los períodos más dulces en la escuela secundaria, no solo porque básicamente casi terminas la escuela, sino por la libertad y las actividades que conlleva. "Senior year" is a typical high school movie spiced with cheesy romance and comedy. Alex Hardcastle directed the movie from a screenplay done by Andrew Knauer, Arthur Pielli, and Brandon Scott Jones.
The movie introduces Stephanie Conway (an Australian who moved to the US) in 1999 as an average, boring and invisible girl who lives with her widowed father. She longs to be popular like Tiffany her rival. So after her fourteenth birthday, she sets up three goals ; To become popular, To date Blaine who is the hottest boy on the school's football team and to become the prom queen. Three years later, she becomes the captain of the cheerleading squad in her school. She also becomes Blaine's girl friend. She focuses all her time and attention on becoming the prom queen without noticing the crush her best friends, Martha and Seth have on her.

Unfortunately, during one of their cheer performance, a deliberate act by Tiffany causes Stephanie to fall from her stunts into coma which causes her dreams to come to an abrupt end.

After absorbing this new reality she goes over to check on Blaine only to discover that he is already married to Tiffany with a child. She decides to go back to high school to complete her 12th grade, earn her diploma and become the prom queen. She is faced with so much difficulties and is devastated after discovering that in other to make everybody feel like a winner, her high school no longer have a prom king or queen but there is still a cheerleading squad with Martha as their coach.

My opinion on "Senior Year"/ Mi opinión sobre "Senior Year".
The characters selection was very good, the actors played their role very well. Rebel Wilson (as 37 years old Stephanie) and Angourie Rice( as 17 years old Stephanie) both did a great job trying to act like the same person and match their character traits. Rebel Wilson an Australian actress who also starred in pitch perfect as fat Amy, is a very seasoned actress. She tries to act as a 37- year- old with the mind of a 17- year- old teenager which we all know is not easy. Wilson's crude remarks, and not- so funny witty saying creates a comical effect in the movie.
La selección de personajes fue muy buena, los actores hicieron muy bien su papel. Rebel Wilson (como Stephanie de 37 años) y Angourie Rice (como Stephanie de 17 años) hicieron un gran trabajo tratando de actuar como la misma persona y combinar los rasgos de su carácter. Rebel Wilson, una actriz australiana que también protagonizó tono perfecto como la gorda Amy, es una actriz muy experimentada. Intenta actuar como una mujer de 37 años con la mente de una adolescente de 17 años que todos sabemos que no es fácil. Los comentarios groseros de Wilson y los dichos ingeniosos no tan divertidos crean un efecto cómico en la película.
I can't talk about Rebel Wilson without mentioning her two best friends Mary Holland(as Martha) and Sam Richardson( as Seth). They stayed with Rebel during her coma even though she paid less attention to them before her fall. These are the type of people we can call real friends. Martha becomes the principal and tries to make the school a school where everyone is recognized with no winners or losers or any popular kids much to Wilson's disappointment. Seth becomes the school Liberian. His love for Stephanie is rekindled after she joins the school again to complete her 12th grade.
No puedo hablar de Rebel Wilson sin mencionar a sus dos mejores amigos, Mary Holland (como Martha) y Sam Richardson (como Seth). Se quedaron con Rebel durante su coma a pesar de que les prestó menos atención antes de su caída. Este es el tipo de personas a las que podemos llamar verdaderos amigos. Martha se convierte en la directora e intenta hacer de la escuela una escuela donde todos sean reconocidos, sin ganadores ni perdedores ni niños populares, para decepción de Wilson. Of course, how can I forget Ana Yi Puig (as Tiffany) who was Stephanie's rival. She really tried in her role as the antagonist. She is the main cause of Stephanie's stunt- gone wrong. She also snatches Stephanie's dream life of marrying Blaine and living in a fancy house. Tiffany feels threatened by Stephanie and tries to surpass her in all what she does. Towards the end of the movie, Tiffany changes her ways due to some series of events.
Por supuesto, cómo olvidar a Ana Yi Puig (como Tiffany) quien fue la rival de Stephanie. Realmente lo intentó en su papel de antagonista. Ella es la causa principal del truco de Stephanie: salió mal. También arrebata la vida soñada de Stephanie de casarse con Blaine y vivir en una casa elegante. Tiffany se siente amenazada por Stephanie y trata de superarla en todo lo que hace. The cultural shift from 2002 to 2022 added a certain uniqueness to the movie. I felt different waves of emotions, as I watched Stephanie try to adapt to the modern world. She's torn between what is hot and not. She even mistakes lady Gaga for Madonna lol. She also learns about Instagram, and how to become an influencer in a very comical way. The movie used this, to lay emphasis on the difference between the 90s and this present day. It shows how this younger generation tends to focus more on the internet rather than reality which is true.
El cambio cultural de 2002 a 2022 agregó cierta singularidad a la película. Sentí diferentes oleadas de emociones, mientras veía a Stephanie tratar de adaptarse al mundo moderno. Está dividida entre lo que está caliente y lo que no. Incluso confunde a Lady Gaga con Madonna jajaja. También aprende sobre Instagram y cómo convertirse en una influenciadora de una manera muy cómica. La película usó esto para enfatizar la diferencia entre los años 90 y la actualidad. Muestra cómo esta generación más joven tiende a centrarse más en Internet que en la realidad, lo cual es cierto.
I must say, I'm really impressed with the choice of songs used. The bringing back of songs from the 90s, evoked some emotions in me. For instance, I'm a good fan of Celine Dion. So, when Celine Dion's "Power of Love" was used as the prom's theme song, I was so happy.
Debo decir que estoy realmente impresionado con la elección de las canciones utilizadas. El traer de vuelta canciones de los 90 me provocó algunas emociones. Por ejemplo, soy muy fan de Celine Dion. I really enjoyed the movie especially during her graduation ceremony, where she was able to throw the stunt, which got her into coma twenty years ago.

My final opinion/ Should you watch Senior Year?

Although the movie was quite interesting, the producers missed out some important details. Because, I still have some unanswered questions like," Why was Tiffany not investigated and arrested for sabotaging Stephanie's cheer performance even though it led her to coma?" I was really disappointed because, it was not mentioned in the movie.
Aunque la película fue bastante interesante, los productores se perdieron algunos detalles importantes. Porque todavía tengo algunas preguntas sin respuesta como: "¿Por qué no se investigó y arrestó a Tiffany por sabotear la presentación de porristas de Stephanie a pesar de que la llevó al coma?". If you are a great fan of cheesy romance and comedy, I recommend "Senior year" to you. you are going to love it. I'll give this movie a rating of 8/10.
