La tercera temporada de The White Lotus ya se ha estrenado en HBO y, desde luego, no me aguanté las ganas de verla para descubrir en qué embrollo nos meterá la mente alucinante de Mike White... por tercera vez. Ahora, se nos devela un nuevo eje paradisiaco en alguna isla de Tailandia. Monos y árboles frondosos serán el fondo de un grupo de viajeros que, en búsqueda de unas vacaciones de ensueño, terminarán encontrando una buena dosis de penurias, males y hasta muerte.
¿Quién morirá esta vez?
Esa es la pregunta que casi todos nos hacemos cada vez que se estrena una nueva temporada de The White Lotus... casi siempre, los finales agridulces saltan y nublan la pantalla para develarnos que, en ocasiones, el lujo y las pasiones son elementos peligrosos; muy peligrosos.

Comencé a ver la obra de Mike White justo cuando su primera temporada se estrenaba en HBO. Para ese momento, la serie de televisión estaba lejos de ser un fenómeno. Pero como todo lo bueno se consolida, no bastó mucho tiempo para que The White Lotus comenzara a hacer ruido y ganar premios. A pesar de que es una miniserie, existen elementos que conectan las temporadas. Algunos hechos pasan de un arco argumental a otro, siempre con el trasfondo de un hotel paradisiaco y una muerte inesperada, pero anunciada, desde los primeros segundos.
Lo interesante de esta serie es su carácter cíclico, en el que se puede interpretar que los eventos que se desarrollan dentro del hotel "The White Lotus" son parte de una maldición, o al menos así lo veo yo. Y es que, tras tres temporadas, es inevitable pensar que dicho lugar, embestido de belleza y lujo, termine teñido de sangre. Parece ser que los turistas que pisan el Loto, despiertan sus más oscuros deseos. No conforme a eso, el destino les pasa factura... algo debe mover los hilos desde atrás.

Esta nueva temporada arrancó con la costumbre de siempre: "¡hay un cadáver en el agua!". Se nos muestras, después, los nuevos protagonistas; caras nuevas para el asador de Tailandia, y algunos rostros conocidos de las temporadas anteriores. Parece ser que en esta ocasión, tal vez, se cierren algunos ciclos abiertos en las temporadas anteriores. Regresa ese toque de humor negro con el que los turistas se presentan a sí mismos. Hay narcisismo, ego, envidia, desilusión y mucha tensión sexual. La desgracia parece conectar a los personajes entre sí, y tras ver el primer episodio, puedo deducir que todo se volverá muy loco aquí.
Debo admitir que el elenco, hasta ahora, me ha gustado. Entre el grupo de nuevos rostros se encuentra Carrie Coon, a quien conocí por primera vez en la serie The Leftovers. Otra de las grandes estelares es Lalisa Manoban, del grupo musical Black Pink. De resto, parece que los actores elegidos combinan perfectamente con el clímax de una serie con toques oscuros.
Amigas ególatras.

Esta vez, conocerás a una familia amarillista que se enfrentará a la peor pesadilla de una familia rica. También verás a un grupo de amigas ególatras que buscarán encajar unas con otras. Por supuesto, será imperdible para ti detallar a un misterioso turista y su loca esposa... Ah, y una cara conocida regresará, huyendo del pasado tormentoso del White Lotus en Hawái para recontarse con parte de esa desgracia... Sí, amigos, en esta serie todo puede salir mal.
Parece ser que Mike White intentará atar cabos para esta ocasión, usando a Tailandia como un refugio para el caos y la tragedia. Creo que el eje policiaco y mafioso tendrá un fuerte protagonismo como pasó en la segunda temporada. La crítica a los placeres culposos, por otro lado, persiste. El humor engalana la pantalla al ironizar los temas más placenteros, como la amistad, la familia e incluso el amor.

El primer episodio de The White Lotus es la epístrofe de una obra monumental de la televisión que, sin duda alguna, no aburre a pesar de que en cada temporada la maldición y el infortunio terminan por destruir un afrodisiaco viaje vacacional. Me gustó que la esencia se siga manteniendo, con algunos toque nuevos, y por supuestos, algunas caras ya vistas en temporadas anteriores. Para ser solo un episodio, debo admitir que inició con buen pie.
Tailandia es solo la punta del iceberg de una serie que, con toques oscuros y dantescos, promete hacernos reír y suspirar. Es muy pronto para una valoración final, pero sin duda alguna, esto va por buen camino.

I started watching Mike White's work just when its first season premiered on HBO. By that time, the television series was far from being a phenomenon. But as all good things come together, it didn't take long for The White Lotus to start making noise and winning awards. Even though it is a miniseries, there are elements that connect the seasons. This new season started with the usual custom: "there's a corpse in the water!". We are then shown the new protagonists; New faces for the Thai steakhouse, and some familiar faces from previous seasons. It seems that this time, perhaps, some cycles opened in previous seasons will be closed. That touch of black humor with which the tourists introduce themselves returns. There is narcissism, ego, envy, disappointment and a lot of sexual tension. Misfortune seems to connect the characters to each other, and after watching the first episode, I can deduce that everything is going to get very crazy here.
I must admit that I liked the cast, so far. Among the group of new faces is Carrie Coon, whom I first met in the series The Leftovers. Another of the great stars is Lalisa Manoban, from the musical group Black Pink. Otherwise, it seems that the actors chosen combine perfectly with the climax of a series with dark touches.

The first episode of The White Lotus is the epistrophe of a monumental television work that, without a doubt, does not bore even though in each season the curse and misfortune end up destroying an aphrodisiac vacation trip. I liked that the essence is still maintained, with some new touches, and of course, some faces already seen in previous seasons. For being only one episode, I must admit that it started off on the right foot.
Thailand is just the tip of the iceberg of a series that, with dark and dantesque touches, promises to make us laugh and sigh. It is too soon for a final assessment, but without a doubt, this is going in the right direction.
