Last week I wrote about the movie "X" and was hoping to write about Pearl this time around. I was really looking forward to watching Pearl during the week but as the weekend approached I started losing the vibe for horror. I still love horror but I just did not feel like getting scared this weekend for some reason. Instead of just letting the weekend pass me by, I decided I was going to see something else. I had some options but I ultimately decided to just check out this Thor movie that was released back in July.
For months now I have been skipping this film because I heard it was just not good. I have not really been pleased with a lot of marvel productions lately so I expected this one to suck big time too. Well, this past weekend I finally saw the film and now I'm going to let you know whether I think it was a flop or not. Shall we?

Alright it's no secret that Marvel Studios has not been doing so well lately. I've seen a couple of Marvel shows and movies this year and have been disappointed with most of them. After watching Multiverse of Madness, I understandably lost interest in the entire marvel craze and seeing any of their movies or shows was the last thing on my mind. If not for the fact that I've always liked Thor and how popular Love and Thunder is, I would not have even considered seeing this movie.
After seeing this film, one thing I can point out is that marvel movies are no longer as intense as they used to be. I really cannot tell if the quality of the movies have reduced or if I feel so because I've just gotten older. Still, I know that something's definitely wrong and marvel needs to up their game again. It doesn't make sense to me when people try to make excuses for them by saying stuff like "the movies need time to grow on you. That's just how marvel is".
Now now, Love and Thunder may have felt less intense but I never said it was a bad movie. In fact, I actually liked it and do not regret spending my time watching it. Despite some ridiculous parts in the plot, the story came together nicely in the end. If you watch the film without taking it too seriously, you will probably think so too.

Something that Marvel did good with Love and Thunder was starting the movie with the story of the Villain. Flashbacks would have worked too but I think the other way helped me connect with the villain a lot more. The harsh scene coupled with the melancholic music right at the start was enough to make me feel sorry for Gorr. Because of how the movie started, I basically had mixed feelings throughout because sometimes I wanted the "bad guy" to win but other times I questioned his methods. Playing with a viewers emotions the right way is a sure fire way to keep them watching.
Another tried and tested way to keep people hooked is with some comedy because life does not have to be so serious all the time. I've said it like a thousand times that comedy is something I appreciate in movies. This film is not a comedy film but it has the right elements to make you laugh. From crazy lines to screaming giant goats, Thor: Love and Thunder does really well in ridiculing its own serious plot. I'll be honest and say that I did not even expect to laugh as much as I did while watching this film. I was very impressed by how the handled the comedy even after some very traumatic events.
Love and Thunder is not just a funny movie. The film actually drives home a very important lesson - spend every second you can with the people you love because you never know what could happen. I know we have all heard this before and it makes life look grim but it's just the way it is. If anything, this quote should improve the quality of the moments we spend with people. Cherish the moments you have with friends and family and don't wait until tomorrow before you tell people you love them. At the end of the day, it's the memories of the good times that you will hold dear.

Long before I knew Chris Hemsworth's name, I used to just call him Thor because he basically owns the character. The fact that Thor himself was in this film made it worthwhile for me. Maybe they can stop trying so hard to release so many productions in a year and just chill the heck out. If a film series takes a decade to complete, people will still wait. There's no point for the rush if you ask me. Maybe they just need to hire me so I can give them fresh ideas. I have some good ones ;)
