The grudge 2020 is an American supernatural horror film produced by Sam Raimi, Rob Taperts and Takashige ichise. Directed and written by Nicolas Pesce. It stars Andrea Riseborough, Demian Bichir, John Cho, Betty gilphin and Lin shaye with a runtime of 1hr 33m.

Synopsis:

A live-in nurse Fiona Landers leaves a home in 2004 to return to America to meet her husband and daughter whom she had missed so much. Before leaving, she calls her co worker Yoko to inform her of her decision before encountering the ghost of Kayako Saeki.

On getting to her home in America situated in Pennsylvania, 44 Reyburn Dr she reunites with her husband Sam and her six year old daughter Melinda whom she had missed so much not knowing.

Kayako Saeki's curse however posseses Fiona causing her to drown her daughter Melinda in a bathtub and bludgeon her husband Sam to death. She later committed suicide by plunging a knife to her neck and ever since then, anyone who ever stepped feet into the Landers house was possessed with the curse and always encountered Fiona's ghost of that of Melinda.

Detective Muldoon who later to moved to Pennsylvania with her son after the death of her husband partners with detective Goodman and comes in contact with the Landers case causing her to dig deep into it carrying the curse too after she had walked into the house even after being warned by Goodman and given a reason why he never entered the Landers house.

When she figures she has been cursed with the curse she finds a way to end it all by burning down the Landers house just so that she doesn't hurt her son. When she thought everything was over, one morning she hugged her son Burke before leaving for school only to see the real Burke leave the house. The Burke she claimed to hug was Melinda and she is later dragged away by Fiona's ghost becoming the next victim of the Landers curse.

Personal thoughts:

The movie is quite gory, includes a lot of suicide and is somewhat entertaining. The plot wasn't quite predictable as I thought that there was gonna be a happy ending but it seems horror films these days no longer have happy endings and end in disappointments. I feel detective Muldoon should have minded her business just as Goodman did. After all, he had an insight into the story of the Landers house long before she moved into Pennsylvania. She'd have rather focused on her son and how to get herself back together after losing her husband to cancer instead of getting wrapped up in another deep shit of supernatural curse.

If you like supernatural horror, you should see this one but remember it's rated 🔞. Not for viewers younger because of the gore it carries.

Gory is not really my thing. May as well just skip this movie.

Thanks for sharing.

Haha! You may skip if you want not everyone likes to watch gory films. Thanks for stopping by

Yeah, I know.

But you have done well with the review. I just am not into gory scenes. Well done.

Thank you for sharing although it's not really my type of film :)

Lol, you don't do horror I assume or maybe it's because of all the gory scenes? I actually understand though. Not everyone would want to watch this type of film. Thanks for reading at least and leaving your comment. I really appreciate💙

I don't do horror because I carry the images on my sleep, lol!

You're very welcome :) I was actually a little adamant to click because I might see something I don't want, but thankfully, there wasn't any :)

I don't do horror because I carry the images on my sleep, lol!

Oh! I do sometimes but I just can't stop watching horror films 😩.

Haha, you're brave Gina. It will take days or even weeks for me to get rid of horrid images off my mind.

Thanks for the compliment ☺️.

I believe this film is a remake correct? If that's the case, I remember watching the Japanese one and it was amazing. I don't think I haven't watched this American version though but I might give it a watch eventually. I love horror and finding good horror is not easy nowadays.

It's a remake of the Japanese ju-on. Though I didn't see all the others, I just watched this 2020 American version. It's interesting and even though one doesn't watch the others, this one is still perfect on its own.

I agree with you that interesting horror films are hard to find these days, some are always boring and web I find the good ones I watch em immediately. Lol. You should see it, it's interesting but gory.
