ARGYLLE|| The Greater The Spy, The Bigger The Lie.

It's been quite some time since I last set my eyes on a solo film as I unexpectedly binge watched a particular series which had so many episodes. Luckily, I finished seeing the marvellous series and decided to return to the solo film club and boy was I swept off my feet by one particular movie!

A majority of the movies that I've seen which have the 2024 tag attached to them have either been average or meh. However, with “Argylle”, the story is different.

About The Movie

An introverted spy novel writer–Elly Conway–writes a story that captures many people's attention; including a very dangerous “division”. Her stories, which seem to be telling the future, gets this author in big trouble. With no one else to trust in particular but her cat, Elly is forced to face life two steps at a time(presumably).

Argylle is a spy action comedy film released on the First of February, 2024. The masterpiece was directed and produced by Matthew Vaughn, the director of Kingsman. The film is 113 minutes long and features an array of splendid characters

Casts

This solo film had a particularly interesting set of casts, some of which include;

  • Bryce Dallas Howard as Elly Conway
  • Sam Rockwell as Aidan Wilde
  • Bryan Cranston as Director Ritter
  • Catherine O'Hara as Ruth
  • Henry Cavill as Argylle
  • Dua Lipa as LaGrange
  • Ariana DeBose as Keira
  • John Cena as Wyatt
  • Samuel L. Jackson as Alfie

My Opinion

Whenever directors combine the comedy and spy action genres, one side is always visibly lagging. Either the characters lack the satirical element or their stunts and actions are bland. This wasn't the case when I saw the film Argylle.

One thing that kept me glued from the start to the finish was the plot twist. When one thinks they are finally getting a hang of the plot, something else effuses from somewhere and we're back to square one. This particular attribute kept me engaged, trying to determine what is what. Automatically, that made the movie an entertaining one for me.

I like how confidently the characters played their roles and Elly Conway who had different personalities aced all her personalities which is only right seeing as she is the main character.

A whole lot of scenes stood out for me but one which I would like to highlight is the scene where I nicknamed ‘joy in chaos’. Here, Elly Conway and Aiden Wilde had to defeat so many enemies, enemies that kept coming in larger numbers each time but the both of them did so–all smiles. The scene was literally rainbow and smiles and if one didn't look closely, they wouldn't know that whenever the smile grew wider, a bunch of men were fired down.

I also like how Aiden was willing to die rather than lay a finger on Elly. This particular scene was both adorable and insane.

However, some controversies arose about the movie with many people expressing their dislike for how overly long the movie was. Personally, there were some scenes that I thought were prolonged or utterly unnecessary. Apart from these minor prolonged scenes, this was a good and fulfilling watch coming from someone who hasn't seen so many spy action films.

Recommendations.

The greater the spy, the bigger the lie.

This film can be recommended to people who enjoy light-hearted entertaining movies, to people who like to watch spy action films and generally to anyone who is searching for a good film to see.
