Hive's Most Underrated Asset

in #hive-167922last year

The whole human race is somehow the product of community. If the first humans who lived on Earth had not gathered together and formed communities, we probably wouldn't be in the position we are right now, with 8 billion people living unique and challenging lives.

Since the rise of the internet era, communities have benefited from exponential growth. Take Hive, for example. Most of the people that one would consider as part of their community on the platform are persons whom they have never met.

I have people around here whom I've been following and interacting with for years now but never ever met in real life. We are part of a community nevertheless. We consume each other's content on a daily basis, interact with each other, but we're not friends or family.

If I were to die tomorrow, nobody from around here would give a damn. We're online mates, and we're not of the same blood, but the power of communities, online communities, should not be overlooked."

The majority of hardcore Bitcoin hodlers and users are probably gamers. Gaming communities are probably the oldest type of communities in the digital realm, and through such communities, some of us found out about Bitcoin and crypto.

I'm not into gaming; I have played a fair amount of games during my teenage years, but none really got me. I guess I should probably blame that on my weak gaming skills.

The truth is that Bitcoin (crypto) is the currency of the internet, something many are still overlooking, and thus the ones that were part of some of the gaming communities and other related ones are some of the first who adopted early such currencies. Drug users and dealers fall into such a category as well.

Back in the day when I was still living in Germany, I remember that a young colleague of mine was talking at some point to me about something that sounded a lot like Bitcoin, but my German language speaking skills were too poor to deeply understand that, and guess what? The guy was a gamer.

I found out about crypto from a friend, who also found out about it from another friend, and thus we once again get another example of how lucrative being part of a community is. I've been on Hive since early 2018 and have my personal story of benefiting from the networking effect that this community has.

Over the years, I've literally been airdropped tokens worth close to $10,000 thanks to some of the community members I've had on Hive. I found out about Publish0x probably three years ago from @trumpman. I started using it, cross-posted my @leofinance posts, and...

Part of the rewards I got on Publish0x was coming in the form of AMPL tokens, a crypto used by Publish0x to reward its users that's still a thing even these days. At the beginning of 2021, Ampleforth announced an airdrop for the Ampleforth users. Whoever used AMPL at any point would get FORTH, the new governance token.

Being someone who used the shitcoin in the past, I was airdropped $2,400 worth of FORTH tokens, and I probably wouldn't have gotten that if Trumpman had not shilled Publish0x in the @leofinance community.

Next...

I don't personally know @inallitlewhile, but we somehow kept in touch through Hive for some good years, and even after he became inactive on Hive, I was still exchanging comments and Twitter DMs with the guy. We both had a passion in common, fishing, and this guy really made my day one day...

I received a DM from him in early 2021 asking if I wanted to be part of a UMA ambassador program and if I would like to receive an airdrop from UMA. Without giving it a second thought, I said yes, and on January 1st, 2022, I received approximately $7,000 worth of UMA tokens thanks to @inallitlewhile.

About $1,400 of that cash went into LEO. Yes, I was so smart and fanatic about LEO that I bought some coins at a bit over $0.4... What can I say... Late bull market thinking.

The conclusion of this post, which could have easily been summarized in just a thread, is that Hive's most important asset is its community. Without the community, Hive wouldn't be what it is today. Many of us would have simply left Steem behind and quit the WEB3 experience we were engaged with for years before the Sun takeover.

You might not get the chance to receive airdrops as I did, or you probably will, but believe me when I say that there's so much to appreciate about this community in so many ways. Another example that I want to mention before closing the post is RUNE and AVA.

Some of the lions on Leofinance have greatly leveraged their early entry into RUNE and AVA, which were heavily promoted by @khaleelkazi and @trumpan about two years ago. Stay connected and keep your eyes open because there's a lot of value you can extract from your time spent on Hive.

Thanks for your attention,
Adrian
