There's a blank page for every success story that can be, write your own...

I suppose I have accumulated a fair number of posts by now dedicated to the crookedness, flaws, and ill nature of social media. I deleted my Facebook account around seven years ago, and aside from Twitter, which I use for crypto content consumption, I have no other social media accounts.

One of the major problems with social media is the influencers. This concept started with the aim of connecting people worldwide and keeping families tied despite the distance separating them. Instead, we've witnessed social media evolve into a narrative-creating mechanism, rotten by censorship and control exercised by the companies that own such apps over their users. The problem with influencers is what I want to address in this post.

There are many fake gurus in almost every niche we can talk about, from finance to fitness, love relationships, and so on. I've been into fitness for a while, and just as I care about choosing my following when it comes to crypto and investing, I do the same with fitness influencers. There are quite a few who have made big bucks based on their followers while selling a fake image and unattainable standards.

The fitness industry is filled with such individuals who use performance-enhancing drugs, giving advice to young ones on how to shape their physique. However, many don't realize the fact that these influencers have not shaped their bodies naturally and that they're selling fake hopes and dreams to their followers.

The same goes for finance gurus who are broke most of the time and love relationship specialists who are unhappy and unfulfilled. All of this makes me wonder: what's wrong with being yourself and working on building the best version of yourself?

I have zero to little chance of reaching a physique like the current Mr. Olympia, no matter how hard I try, because I don't have the genes to achieve that, and I am certain that I will never be as rich as Warren Buffet. However, that does not mean I can't do my best to reach my full potential in whatever aspect of life we're discussing.

We don't have to have the same goals and ambitions and reach the same peaks because we're not the same. Just look at the crypto market and see how diverse and how much everything has changed over the past few years, and realize what a fool one would be to always bet on the same coin or try to replicate what X or Y achieved during a certain bull market.

Back in 2018, I was listening to a podcast where one dude was telling his story with ETH and how he managed to buy ETH at $4 and hold it all the way to $400. That guy managed to score a 100X on his investment, and probably there are a few others who achieved that as well, but probably if I'd try that, I'd fail. Hence, I'm not that focused anymore on trying to achieve what others have achieved but rather focusing on becoming the best version of myself.

We're not born equal, we don't have the same potential, and we should definitely not try to replicate each other's success. There's a blank page for every success story that can be, write your own, and forget about the others.

Thanks for your attention,
Adrian

I love your apt description, "fake gurus in every niche", this irritates me deeply🫠, why speak authoritatively on what you know little about? Just give your perspective and discuss other viewpoints. Simple!

My honest apologies, sir...

@acesontop, you misunderstood me 😪😪, I meant I loved your write up. I highlighted the area I loved the most, of how we have fake gurus almost everywhere in every niche. I totally agree with your point, that was why I said, it is preferable that people speak on their point of views on issues and not authoritatively push their ideas as the only key when they have no solid backing to do so.
Accept my apologies if my response gave room for misinterpretation.

Keep up the good work, and I hope today was a success.

Sorry for misunderstanding your comment then...

I agree indeed.😊 We are different from each other and have different script in life. Focus on one self and and not to compare.😊

Word. Why would everyone be the same when that’s actually impossible?! Chasing after your dreams and goals and becoming the best version of yourself is way more lucrative than trying to become like someone else.

I agree. 😊 That is the biggest problem of people around the world, trying to copy others and end up disappointed.😊

They should blame social media for having a big influence on that one.

You have the point. I'm thankful that I'm here in Hive because my time is divided and not purely on Facebook.

Hive is so different than facebook.

Yes. Full of valuable information.

Unlike you, I still keep my FB handy to stay connected with people I care about.

2 years ago used a Chrome extension to mass unfollow all pages and people, then carefully curated my feed to follow only those things I truly care about. But recently, FB has been showing me post and people suggestions and it's pestering me tbh.

The one thing I despise about socmed is THE Algorithm. Beyond invading our privacy and subjecting us to psychological evaluations without consent, it manipulates us into forming habits. Socmed platforms are designed to exploit dopamine hits, steering us toward content that keeps us hooked and nudging us toward "buying" things—both literal and figuratively...

We'd be compelled to buy a car because a friend we often stalk has it. Or we buy into lies and envy because social media promotes them.

They're making money from our data, without us getting paid for it. Worse, we're being systematically exposed to things that will make us feel small, that way we buy things that will make us feel bigger.

It's a troubling cycle where our personal information is monetized, and our emotional vulnerabilities are exploited for profit. And we little tiny-brained minions only see everyone as users and friends, but really... only a handful of people are real friends. And those are the ones that we really connect with offline.

I subscribe entirely to everything you wrote. I had a post about four years ago which tackled social media from this perspective.
