Saturday Savers 2024 Progress Report - Week 27

It's Saturday, and what a crazy week that was !

Here's my #SaturdaySavers update..... it's nice to feel like there's something that is part of the usual routine.

Here's my table of progress for the week;

What A Week !

I actually had good gains in both HP and HBD last week, although it didn't come from the usual curation and posting rewards.

300HP came from powering up on HPUD. I managed to find some fiat I could use to buy HIVE with, thinking I was getting a great deal at 17.6p per HIVE. Then almost immediately it crashed to around 13.5p.

Most of the HBD gain was because the monthly interest arrived, also on 1st of the month. 33.372 HBD is the most interest so far !

I used a chunk of the powered up HP to boost both of my delegations, giving them enough of a punt that I shouldn't have to worry about dropping below target for a little while.

However, my author rewards were definitely down, and I haven't been as active as I'd like. This is more to do with real life needing attention rather than anything to do with the price of HIVE, although there's been a strong dip in rewards as a lot of people seem to have stopped curating.

I'm still not buying HBD right now, the number of HIVE needed for it is just too high although I'm pleased to see that it's starting to look like it might be going in the right direction.

At the lowest point, HIVE's price was very close indeed to the figure I set myself as a stop-loss. The reality is that Hive Power takes so long to power down that whatever is going to happen is going to happen and it would be too late.

But I set myself a price of 12p as the point where I'd move all my HBD out of savings and get it out of Hive as soon as it became available. The release time is 3 days, so my logic was that while HIVE was crashing it was losing 1p to 1.5p a day. Taking it out of savings should (just !) free it and let me get it off Hive before the haircut rule kicked in. I'd still take a huge loss, but at least I'd salvage something rather than losing everything if Hive looked like heading to zero.

But then I did another piece of maths. If I took 1000HBD out of savings, and converted it to HIVE at a price of 14.5p, then bought HBD back at 15p, I'd make £34.48 - more than a month's interest on just a halfpenny of price movement.

However, it relies heavily on liquidity being there. Plus I'm far too risk averse to gamble like that ! But I might try it on a much smaller scale, just to see if I can get the hang of trading and make it work for me.

Oh, and I've got no idea how many SBI's I've got, only how many I've bought. They are still paying out, but last time I checked there was still no sign of their website or PeakD interface coming back online, so I'm kind of assuming they won't for the foreseeable future.

All in all, it was a mad week and I have to admit I did get very concerned at one point, but hopefully it's starting to turn a corner. I think what all of us need to do is keep curating and try to lure more people into joining the rollercoaster journey of Hive 😁

If you're not familiar with SaturdaySavers, it's a fabulous initiative run by @shanibeer writing as @sally-saver on the @eddie-earner account, where we all support each other in getting to our savings goals.

If you are one of my friends reading this (or just someone who tripped over one of my posts), I really recommend this as a great community that's well worth joining.

I'm normally very disorganised about saving, and the support of the wonderful people in #SaturdaySavers has been invaluable in keeping me focused. I can honestly say that without it, my HP would probably be half what it is now.

So join ! You don't have to wait until the start of the year. The best time to start saving is ten years ago. The second best time is right now !

Sort:

Managing those ups and downs can be stressful, but it's great to see you strategizing and adapting. Good luck with your savings goals moving forward brother

I know the real-life problem very well. 😅 I should start the SSC posts again. It wasn't too hard to write and I can follow along some Hive goals. I still got the sheet somewhere.

Go for it ! I must admit, writing the #SaturdaySaver posts has been a lot easier and faster since I set up a template in PeakD for it, including all the tags etc.

I saved a draft for all recurring posts in ecency too. Makes it so much easier.

Either is better than Leo, lol 😀

I just prefer PeakD because it separates out templates from my drafts (which has become a place full of clutter and half-posts).

I see. Similar to my snippets in ecency. A sort and folder function would be nice.

If it hits 12c again, I'm doing the opposite of your plan: my 1k HBD savings immediately will be flipped for HIVE and if I have more fiat to throw at it, those will too. 10c is where it's totally worth the pain in the butt to get CAD into HIVE.

I think I'd probably do that at a later stage, but right now I think I've probably invested more fiat into Hive than I should have so the plan is over the next few months to gradually pull out some of the investment and focus on earning more within the ecosystem. That way, a drop like this one won't immediately put me underwater !

Ahhh yeah that makes sense, that was part of my reason for power down as well, fiat in that I needed plus extra I could use lol. Now it's rebuild time!

Greetings,
Your report shows commitment to reach your target
Thank you for sharing this report. It is inspiring to member
Have a good Monday

I think another reason why your author rewards may be down is due to the price of Hive but I’m sure that as the price goes up, your HP will increase
Goodluck!

Good point ! I mostly think of rewards in HIVE rather than $, but I'm also aware of the need when upvoting to make sure the vote value is over the 2 cent dust threshold.
