In today's hectic and demanding society, it is imperative to carve out leisure time to strike a harmonious equilibrium between professional commitments and personal well-being. Similar to countless individuals, I highly value the hours of free time I have at my disposal. These cherished moments grant me the chance to unwind, reinvigorate, and engage in endeavours that provide me with both delight and a sense of accomplishment. In this blog post induced by the @hive.ghana community, I will outline various ways I engage in leisure activities. I will also outline how leisure has affected my personality and life.
Music: A Soulful Connection
One of my favourite ways to unwind and find solace is through music. As a singer myself, singing, in particular, holds a special place in my heart. Singing does not only calm my soul but also allows me to express emotions that might be difficult to put into words. Whenever I am overwhelmed with emotions or the cares of this world, my only escape is to exercise this skill. I have become better at singing as I have honed my talent. As a child, I led the choir at my school. I also led the music department of my church from a very young age and now I sing as a soloist for my church. I have grown to love music and I find myself singing everywhere I go.

Singing serves as a powerful outlet for self-expression and enables me to connect with my inner self on a profound level. Regardless of my emotional state - be it euphoria or difficulty - I rely on the power of song to uplift my mood and promote positivity. One of the most splendid attributes of singing is its power to bring happiness to both the artist and those listening respectively. I have sung for many people to feel sorrowful and remorseful. Other times people have experienced great joy through my singing. These emotions are not eluded from me when i sing as i get my fair share of it.
Nevertheless, whether I am sad or happy, my number one escape route is singing. Though it's something I escape to during my leisure period, I have further nurtured my passion for singing, by actively participating in the Afritunes and Hive Open Mic communities on the hive network.
Before my pregnancy amidst my busy schedule, I make an effort to submit a song every week, or at the very least, record myself singing a chosen piece. The feedback I received from fellow community members has been invaluable in honing my musical skills and forming connections with like-minded individuals which included but not limited to @ksam, @ovey10, @hopestylist . I remember i was the number one singer for four consecutive weeks which was something I took great pride in. I am making my return to the communities and I hope to continue touching souls with my song.
Movies: A Leisurely Escape

Despite not being a die-hard movie fan, I occasionally watch a movie or series to relax. However, I must admit that my relaxation sometimes gets the better of me, and I find myself dozing off a few minutes into the film. Nonetheless, I view this as a testament to my body's appreciation for rest, and I gladly embrace it.
Balancing Rest and Productivity
As much as I enjoy leisure time, I also recognize how important it is to strike a balance between relaxation and productivity. In a world filled with endless distractions, setting aside time for leisure can be challenging, especially when work and other commitments take precedence. However, I have learned the hard way that even a few minutes of self-care can go a long way in improving focus, productivity, and overall well-being. I have experienced a tantrum of depression and even fallen sick through exhaustion before so I have a first-hand account of the importance of rest.
In conclusion, my leisure hours allows me to engage in activities that nourish my soul and bring me peace. Singing empowers me to express myself authentically and share my emotions to my audience. Movies provide a leisurely escape, albeit sometimes leading to unintended dozing. I call it a beauty sleep.
