In another few years, there will be a huge demand for AI Engineers instead of regular engineers. The demand is going to be more towards using AI to build software or have an AI element implemented in existing products. There is already a big race going on in the market to make sure every product out there is using AI in one way or another. This race is very important because there is a huge demand for AI, and AI is doing wonders.
Companies add AI elements to their software
I have seen this happening in many products. They either rebrand their product or come up with a new product that is now AI capable or with an AI element inside it that can be an attractive solution for the customers. They make the customers believe that AI is making their life easier. To do such things, the demand for AI engineers is essential in the background. Companies are hiring AI engineers who can convert a normal product to an AI product with the help of data the product already has.
Generative AI is going to rule
Today with the help of AI, we can generate any piece of code. If we just explain the logic to an AI and ask for help, it provides the complete code and also explains us how the code works. Any developer or non-developer benefits out of this feature today and there is no fancy engineering element required for this. But if people want to keep up in the market, they should become the AI engineer who is building all these generative AI stuff. That way it makes it more demanding.
AI will not steal jobs
There is also a fear that people might end up losing their jobs because of AI. This I would say is not the case because this already started happening when automations started happening. AI is not going to do anything extra. Probably it might speed up the automation process. People will still be needed even if there is AI because the creativity of humans cannot be matched with AI. The future folks will start working on increasing the creativity of AI but it can never surpass Humans is what may feeling says.
Existing developers can upskill
A new set of developers doesn't need to emerge in the market. The existing developers can understand more about AI and start using some AI tools in the project or product they are working on. This way they can get some hands-on and if interested they can do a deep dive. There are data engineers and data scientists who work more with data and make use of AI in that. But when it comes to developers it is all code and they have to upskill a lot so that they can compete with the changes that are happening in the market and they can be a part of the change.
