A recent proposal was published on Splinterlands and there's still time to vote. The proposal aims to add SPS reward to guild brawls.
Guild activities have been taken to the back burner for a while now due to focus on the "main game". In any case, a decent number of players still participate whenever they can and while the rewards aren't exactly tradable, we get the feeling that we're winning something.
On the Cryptomaniacs podcast, I was talking with @jongolson about gladius monsters and how they feel like tokens of participation and not actual valuable assets in Splinterlands. We also both lamented the addition of Merits as part of rewards for daily and seasonal participation.
As far as I know, Merit isn't an actual token in the game and the only purpose is to buy Gladius case. Gladius case home monsters that technically have no market value and are hardly actually used.
In all my years of participating in guild brawls, I've actually never faced a player that actually used one of the Gladius monsters. Perhaps it is due to the difficulty in upgrading the set of monsters but like I said, for the most part, they seem like tokens of participation, rather than assets.
The change
The new proposal has already garnered millions of SPS worth of votes and at the time of writing, it is looking overwhelmingly positive that it will get passed.
At the time I voted, 88% of voters indicated their support for this move. So, unless something crazy happens in the next couple of hours, SPS rewards will start being paid as reward for guild brawls participation.
One thing we can say for sure concerning this change is that if the proposal is approved, we won't be having empty frays in guild brawls.
The theme of Splinterlands should be "push and shove" because I have a feeling that's once again going to be the case with filling frays in guild brawls. Once the word is out, participants will be looking to take advantage of this situation.
According to the schedule from the proposal, there will be a minimum of 3 million SPS made available for the lowest tier of guilds rising up to 9 million SPS per year for the 5th tier of guilds. The SPS rewards will be distributed among participants in guild brawls according to rank in the brawl and other parameters that I won't get into.
The point is that with this proposal getting approved, participants will most likely be looking into ways that they will improve their guild's tiers. Well, either that or there will be mass exodus from lower-tiered guilds into the higher-tiered guilds with available spaces.
In any case, I expect to see a bit more participation in upgrading the buildings in guild with special attention being paid to the Arena as that seems to be what determines the tier of guild brawl that is participated in. So it is quite possible that DEC could spike due to increased demand for upgrading guild buildings.
On the flip side, the only apparent downside of this approval being approved is that this will be contributing to SPS inflation. To be specific, according to the proposal, across the five brawl tiers, 30 million more SPS tokens will be printed for rewarding players annually.
Adding 30 million SPS tokens per year isn't exactly any cause for concern, particularly with the fact that there's a hard cap. Besides, this inflation will easily be offset with all the token burn activities from buying Licenses, gems and any future change that we should expect to come in the future.
In Summary
If I were to go buy the SPS voting stat of the proposal, I could claim that the community absolutely loves the idea. However, anybody that's been around known that these voting processes can easily be skewed by the presence of a few whales voting in one or the other direction.
In any case, the odds are overwhelmingly in favour of the proposal being passed and it is up to regular players to make the most out of the situation. So, if you're not part of a guild, you should either be looking to join one or start your own guild with your own band of players that will enable you to participate in brawls.
