I'm pleased to say that my wait has been rewarded. Yesterday, I was officially promoted to the role of team leader and this effectively means that I've got my first job as a manager.
I'm not going to lie, I actually abandoned my current quest for the position and started thinking that it wasn't going to happen for this job. However, the universe had other plans for me and well, let's see where it takes me.
Yesterday, I unsuspectingly went to the office for another regular day of work. A few hours to the end of the shift, I was called to the side and clandestinely told that I'd been promoted.
I was thrown straight into the deep end of the pool and told to swim, immediately. Which I did.
The first thing I did was go to a toilet to call my wife and tell her the good news. After that, I scheduled a quick meeting with my new team, introduced myself and had a quick chat with everyone. I already remember everyone's names.
Just like that, my time on the phones has come to an end. I'll still handle a complaint or two from time to time but from now on, I'll be dealing with administrative, scheduling and tasks of that nature.
I must admit, it does feel like a weight has been taken off my shoulder but then, it has been replaced by an even bigger weight of responsibility.
I must admit, it's responsibility that I'm totally ready for and have partially been doing since, anyway. Now it's my full time job to manage a team and motivate them to be the best.
So, yup, just like that, after 9 months of grinding and a drive to improve, I've gotten a promotion to manager. Let's see what the future holds.
