For third time, I'm going to be paying my rent with Hive. It's an incredible feeling to be able to achieve this and all I have is gratitude.
There's no mincing words, I'd be nothing without Hive. Everything I know about money, management and investment comes from my experiences in this community.
Ever since the days of Steem, when I was just a newbie on the platform, this community has constantly been providing for my needs.
It's because of this platform that I was able to start a life and family. It's also this platform that enables me to provide for my family.
Hive is one of the few consistent things in my life. It is the only place that I feel comfortable with sharing my life.
Even my activities on Twitter, at the end of the day, are intended to bring value to hive. It is all I know about money and so, I never miss an opportunity to show my gratitude.
Paying rent
Would you believe that the first time I actually paid rent out of my own pocket was in early 2020? It was just before the worldwide COVID-19 lockdowns started.
As you can imagine, I was ecstatic and walked around with a chip on my shoulder.
For what it's worth, it wasn't a huge amount but it still felt right. For the first time in my life, I felt like I had a life that was my own.
You see, prior to paying my rent for the first time, as a then 27 year old, I had been living hand to miyth and surviving on an allowance from my parents. It wasn't for the lack of trying but the reality is that there aren't decent jobs available in Nigeria.
So paying rent for the first time, really felt like a huge achievement for me, as a person. Subsequently, I started catering for myself and no longer required an allowance from my parents.
My parents helped me get on my feet and Hive helped me stand firm afterwards. My life continued to improve, as I consistently seeked out ways to improve my finance.
It was in that period that I also started my Splinterlands journey and that turned out to be nothing short of a miracle.
Thanks to my earnings from Splinterlands, Publishing on Hive and freelance gigs that I still do until this day, I was able to carve out a life for myself. In fact, I even got married and now I'm starting a family.
Hive saved my life
I saw a tweet by @theycallmedan that goes "hive saves lives" and I 100% resonate with it. You see, I won't even have a life without Hive.
My time on Hive has been nothing short of miraculous and I honestly can't stop being grateful.
I am grateful for every upvote, staking, token, coin, HBD, NFT, airdrop and everything in between that has contributed to get me to where I am today.
Now I'm on the verge paying rent once again for a moderate apartment, with funds that I earned organically from publishing on Hive. For this I say thank you to everyone in the community.
