Despite various gear changes and second thoughts, Twitter is reportedly on the verge of officially launching Blue, the paid service that offers benefits to members.
These include the opportunity to get a validation checkmark, similar to the one that currently sees celebrities, media and other VIPs certify their online presence.
After the Nov. 29 and then Dec. 2 misses, a strategy emerges that would see the company differentiate the cost charged to Blue users, depending on the device used to access the feature.
According to The Information website, the app would charge $11 per month to those who sign up for Twitter Blue from the iPhone while the price would be $8 from the web version.
Just a few days ago, Twitter's new owner Elon Musk had announced plans to introduce three-color tickers: gold for businesses, gray for governments, and blue for individual users. According to The Information, the price change is likely a result of the percentage Apple charges for in-app purchases, i.e., additional services that can be bought directly from within the apps. To date, the Cupertino giant withholds 30 percent of revenues from iOS apps, while web purchases, using a regular computer browser, do not result in Twitter withholding. Late last month, Musk had criticized Apple for its transaction fees and threatened to remove Twitter from the App Store. The tension receded following a meeting with Tim Cook on Dec. 1 at the Apple Park campus.
Meanwhile, criticism of Elon Musk continues after his takeover. Let's see how the situation develops!
