FAMILY
I am the fourth child of Elder and Mrs Herbert Ahamefula Orji. My father was a retired headmaster and tried his best, with the cooperative assistance of my mother, to inculcate good moral values to the eight children. Teaching, which is my beloved profession, was inherited from my father. I am presently the head of my own family of one wife, a son and two daughters. The picture below shows my family.
EDUCATION
My formal education started at Mgbokonta Primary School. After my secondary school education at All Saints Secondary School, Ehere, Aba (popularly known as Alsaco Varsity), I got admission into Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) where I studied Materials/Metallurgical Engineering, graduating by 1998.
PROFESSION
I did my National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program in 1999 at System Metal Industries Limited, Calabar. During my NYSC, I started gathering work experiences in the area of manufacturing and materials logistics as the company is involved in the production of aluminium pots and pans. Maintenance of the production facilities and machines was one of our regular activities. The picture below show some of the production staff of the company.
After my NYSC, I started the production of foundry items such as decorative castings, laboratory retort stands, plastic moulds (for blow moulding).Below are some of my products.
I later worked at National Design Development Institute (NEDDI) Nnewi where I was trained in engineering designs and production of components. Presently I am a lecturer in the Welding & Fabrication Department, Abia State Polytechnic, Aba.
My company, Cokee Foundries Limited, Aba is also engaging in foundry production, engineering designs and contracts. The suffocating competition with imported products, (especially those from China) and poor government attitudes towards local production has not been encouraging to micro and small scale industries like my own, but we are still trying our best.
As a person that loved his profession as an engineer, I sat for the professional examination of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and passed in 2004 as a Corporate Member. I subsequently become a chartered engineer in 2008 after successful registration with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering Practices in Nigeria (COREN). I have been attending engineering conferences, as shown by the picture below.
