Hive accounts have been in a need in the last period. Since Splinterlands boom in the second half of 2021, a lot of new accounts were created, setting up some ATH records.
The thing with the Hive accounts is that they have a readable user name unlike the random strings on Ethereum or Bitcoin wallets. This human readable name comes at costs as it takes up resources. Creating new Hive accounts is the most expensive operation on the Hive blockchain and it can be done with a lot of Resource Credits (RCs), meaning a lot of Hive Power, or with just paying the fee that the blockchain has for creating new accounts.
The fee for creating new Hive accounts is a parameter set by the witnesses and at the moment it costs 3 HIVE. There are some witnesses in the top 20 that are now signaling 1 HIVE fee for new accounts. With the volatility of the HIVE price sometimes it is a challenge to price these things.
The option for creating accounts with RCs, or sometimes perceived as the free accounts requires users to first claim account as an account token, that can be then used for creating accounts. Not all claimed accounts are created. Claimed accounts are not transferable yet.
We will be looking into the following:
- Number of accounts created per day
- Number of accounts created per month
- Total accounts created
- Number of accounts claimed
- Claimed VS Created accounts
- Top accounts creators
- Top accounts claims
For context we will be looking at the period from the very beginning of the chain, March 2016 till today.
Number Of Accounts Created
Here is the chart for the overall accounts created.
Here we can see the two spikes in the overall period of Hive existence. First in 2017, especially towards the end of 2017 and the beginning of 2018. Then yet again just recently starting from August 2021 till now.
On both of the occasions above, there was more then 20k Hive accounts created per day.
In the period when the accounts creation was low there is just a few hundred accounts created per day.
The monthly chart for new accounts looks like this:
We can notice the spike here as well, with the recent spike reaching higher heights on a monthly level. In September 2021 there has been 280k accounts created per month. October has also been great with 240k accounts. December is the last column on the chart but it is not over yet.
Total Accounts Created
When we sum the above, we get this.
We can see here the increase in the numbers of accounts in 2017, when the accounts number reached more then 1M. Then a period with a gradual increase and then even steeper growth in the last months, going from 1.5M to 2.3M in a few months. More then 800k accounts were in the last four months.
Ona a yearly basis the numbers looks like this.
Year | Accounts created |
---|---|
2016 | 124,981 |
2017 | 419,984 |
2018 | 640,608 |
2019 | 166,079 |
2020 | 75,395 |
2021 | 910,098 |
Number Of Accounts Claimed
Claimed accounts are like sort of a buffer of accounts. Accounts with high HP claim accounts that later can be used for accounts creation. Not all claimed accounts are created.
Here is the chart.
There as some oscillations in the number of claimed accounts per day, but overall, the number is around 2000 accounts claimed daily.
In the hivesql database there is data for claimed accounts starting from September 2018, so I guess this option was enabled then. Since then, a total of 2.3M accounts were claimed, and from the quick analysis it looks like somewhere around 500k accounts tokens have been used. This means that users on Hive still hold around 1.8M accounts creation tokens.
Claimed VS Created Accounts
Here is the chart.
As mentioned, there is around 2k accounts claimed per day, while the number of accounts created can vary a lot. Starting from August 2021 the number of accounts created surpassed the number of accounts claimed by a lot. In the last months the number dropped and it is now around 400 daily created vs 2000 claimed.
Top Accounts Creators
Here is who created most of the accounts in 2022!
@appreciator is on the top with more than 11k accounts created in 2022!
@ocdb is on the second spot with 9k accounts created. From what I have notice they seem to create accounts for the Splinterlands players in the last period.
From previous reports I know that Splinterlands has created a lot of accounts and also paid for a lot of them. More then 2M HIVE was burnt in the process.
Top Accounts Claims
At the end the chart for who has claimed most of the free accounts in 2022.
This chart mostly follows the HP holdings that the accounts have.
@ocdb has is on the top with almost 25k accounts claimed, followed by the @appreciator account on the second spot. @blocktrades comes on the third sport with almost 90k.
A total of 753k accounts were claimed in 2021. Overall, this is the number of accounts that has been claimed yearly in the last three years.
2021 has been a record year for accounts creation on Hive with 910k accounts created out of the total of 2.4M. Splinterlands is the main reason for this with somewhere around 750k accounts created just for the game, and maybe more. 2022 has been to a slow start, back to the previous levels with 10k to 50k accounts created per month.
Claiming accounts has been steady in all of the period. Claimed accounts are still not transferable.
All the best
