If we take a look at the cumulative Hive powered up, we will notice that it keeps growing. At the beginning of 2022 the amount of Hive power was around 148M and at the moment is 159M. A net 11M Hive power added in 2022.
Let’s take a look at the data.

We will be looking at:
- Hive Powered Up By Date
- Hive Powered Up By Month
- Hive Power Supply
- Hive Power Share
- Top Accounts That Powered up
- Top Accounts That Powered Down
The period that we will be looking here is from the creation of the old chain 😊, March, 2016, with a closer look at 2021 – 2022.
Hive Powered Up
Here is the chart for the all-time Hive powered up.
These are daily net columns that sum up the HIVE powered up and down for the day. Positive column means that there is more powering up on that they, and negative more powering down. The HIVE power from rewards/inflation is also included.
We can notice that there are some big power downs in 2016 and 2017, and then again in March 2020, after the hostile takeover. In the recent period we can see that the powering up has been mostly positive.
When we zoom in 2021 – 2022 we get this:
Overall, a net positive trend in the last two years. A total of 18M more Hive power was added up in the period. Now one should consider that tin the period there is a constant inflation of new HIVE, but still a net positive power up means a big share of it ends powered up.
On a monthly basis we have this:
There have been a more power downs in March – May 2021, and since then a net positive power ups with a small exception of October 2021.
May 2021 has been a record month for Hive powered up with more than 4M HIVE powered up.
The yearly chart looks like this.
2017 has been the one year with more HIVE powered down. A net 15M HIVE was more powered down then powered up. 2020 has been a record year powering up, with 15M more HIVE powered up.
This years is on a way to be a record high year for powering up, but its still early and we will see how it ends.
HIVE Power Cumulative Supply
When we plot the cumulative HIVE power in the period, against the total supply we get this.
The strong white is the HIVE power share. The middle one is HIVE in the DHF. The light is the liquid HIVE.
The HIVE in the DHF was previously powered up, but then was transferred in the DHF and is now slowly converted to HBD over a period of five years. Two gone, three left to go 😊.
Overall, the HIVE power has been growing slowly in the whole period, but the liquid HIVE has even more aggressive expansion up until 2021.
Hive Power in 2021 – 2022
When we zoom in on Hive Power only, we get this.
The Hive power has increased from around 140M at the beginning of 2021 to almost 160M now.
In terms of percent, it has also grown from 37% to 42%.
Liquid HIVE
The share of liquid HIVE in 2021 and 2022 looks like this.
In January 2021 there was 161M liquid HIVE (excluding the DHF). Then in September 2021 a sharp decrease to 140M. This was the period when HBD was trading above $1 and a lot of conversions were happening from HIVE to HBD.
After this the liquid HIVE supply started increasing again and we are now at the same levels like in January 2021. The liquid HIVE supply is basically oscillating between Hive Power and HBD.
HIVE Supply Share
When we plot the current supply on a pie we get this.
- 42% Hive Power
- 42% Liquid HIVE
- 16% HIVE in the DHF
Having in mind that the HIVE in the DHF is locked we can say that a cumulative of 58% of the HIVE supply is powered up / locked.
Top Accounts That Powered Up
Who is powering up the most?
Here is the chart for the last 30 days.
Well the @alpha account is dominating the chart here with 2.4M powered up in the last period. As far as I’m familiar this account is under management of @blockctrades.
Next is @yabapmatt with 275k HIVE powered up and then comes @jphamer1.
Top 20 Accounts That Powered Down
Who is powering down the most?
Smaller numbers here in terms of amount of HIVE powered down.
The @safari account is on the top with 126k HIVE powered down, followed by @bluemist with 100k.
As we can see in the last period the amount of HIVE powered up has grown further with May being a record month with more than 4M powered up. Some of the core accounts have been powering up large amounts. Ever since the fork that created the chain back in March 2020, the overall trend has been up. The HIVE supply is expanding, but still more HIVE is being powered up in the process and the Hive Power share has also increased.
Its great to see that overall the community is supporting the project and continue to be vested in, especially when we take into account that HIVE has one of the longest unstaking periods in the industry!
All the best
