Little friction

I have shared my stories over and over again on how I struggle with some social media apps, especially YouTube and I realize that deleting this app always goes a long way because it not only helps me to focus, It also helps me to stay away from social media, but I used to download it back when there are some things that I can’t get anywhere but only from YouTube. When YouTube is on my phone after using it the next thing I do is drop my phone somewhere else and spend my time on my PC because I know that if I should be spending time on my phone, I have enough distractions there already, I choose to spend my time on my PC instead of my phone and this has been effective.

Most people struggle with one habit or another, and for you to create a new habit you have to eliminate the previous habit that is disturbing you. Sometimes people believe that it will be very difficult to eliminate the habit they are addicted to. All you have to do is simple You just have to create a barrier between you and your bad habit. When you tell people about creating these forms of barrier they tend to look at something small, but it takes a small friction to stop a very crazy habit. I’ve given you an example of how I stop my YouTube habit by deleting the app and if there is something important I want to do on YouTube after doing it I will drop my phone somewhere to avoid distraction. This might be simple, but it is very effective.

You don’t have to do too much when you are trying to stop a habit, if you are addicted to watching TV, simply unplugging it from the socket may stop you from not washing it next time. If you have a habit of drinking a lot of alcohol, not seeing alcohol at all by keeping them away and also staying away from friends that love alcohol can make you drink less because it stops your triggers. All these things are not difficult, but they have a major purpose and they are little friction.

Little friction is very important and some of the billionaires in our present world know how important it is. Let’s take for instance, delivering company, they realize that people struggle a lot to go and collect their delivery, They make it easy by delivering to your doorstep. That little friction put a lot of money into their pocket. Spotify solves another problem of buying a lot of DVDs and CDs in your house by creating a smart way of having thousands of songs in your pocket without having a lot of DVDs in your house. These are little frictions that might be simple but it’s bring comfort to us. These are a little frictions that might be simple but it is helpful.

People are also using this little friction to solve problems and use it for themselves. When you are trying to break a bad habit you can start by doing something simple that creates a kind of barrier between you and your habit so that when you want to do it again it should be very difficult for you. It can be anything just make sure it makes it hard for you to do it the next time, and if you want to create a good habit, it also works just make sure it makes it simple for you to do next time. This is how people use little friction to their advantage.
