On the verge of realising a dream

Mondays.

[EDIT: ending the post on Tuesday since yesterday fell asleep, you get the point nvm]

Actually, I like Mondays. It's the day which my partner has more free time and since a while ago my Mondays have become my 'new' Sundays. Don't ask me why, but today I'm feeling in the mood to share a little bit about my life outside Hive, yeah, the 'real' metaverse and all that stuff.

Damn, how surrealists are becoming life those days uh?

This morning walking on the street realised this is a very important week for me & my family since it marks a very special milestone, a dream becoming true happening as soon as tomorrow. And I thought I'd like to share it and immortalise it on Hive (why not?).

I'm helping my parents to buy up a house.

Overwhelming, more so as I think about it. We sign at the notary on Wednesday.

How the decision was made?

Facts... less than 2 months ago. Having a typical Christmas meal. My parents, my siblings and I were sitting at Christmas lunch and my father was ranting about how bad is the bank's customer service and how 'elder-unfriendly' they are.

Then, we changed the subject, started talking about the rent/purchasing property dilemma and my sister asked:

-Have you ever thought about buying this apartment?
-We can't.
-Why not?
-We don't have enough.
-you got your numbers right?

Then my sister winked at me...

Maybe my brother and I can help (If he agrees, obviously).

Live footage of me & my sister blinking each other at Christmas dinner,
Ps. yeah my sister is hottie

It is worth mentioning that my parents are in a somewhat particular situation right now. They have some savings (their life savings) and a retirement pension. But they own no house and have an elderly person in a nursing home. The combined expenses between rent and support for my grandmother are wearing them down year after year, and since my father always plan years in advance, he's starting to feel slightly worried (which is a privilege indeed, lots of people living on a month to month basis).

Not by much and nothing extremely worrying in the short term, but still... my father is afraid that he won't be around in a few years and that my mother will be left in a vulnerable situation with no income and no home on her own (he is 10 years older than my mother).

(It's indeed an almost impossible scenario but this is how the human mind works, sometimes we can only foresee when things go extremely bad... when the reality is much more 'neutral').

I should also mention that my mother stopped working 30 years ago to take care of me and my siblings (and I'm eternally grateful for that) and look after the house (as my father had a very good salary enough to cover for everything).

image.png

TL;DR

We realized we had enough capital to make such a move (we're talking about paying out ~340.000€ all at once).

My father pulled out the necessary things and agreed with his sister (my aunt) to get part of the money from a hypothetical future inheritance. We could say that he cordially 'borrowed' that money from other family members.

  • 2/5 was covered from my parent's life savings.
  • 2/5 was covered by other family members (as I just explained, didn't want to enter into much detail).
  • The last 1/5 it's covered by me and my sister.

So... after this move, my sister & I were buying up the 20% (10% each) of the house of my parents. Saving them over 8.000€ on a YEARLY basis. Truly lifechanging.

image.png

It may not seem like much for some people, but as I see it, I'm helping my parents to live a better & peaceful life, allowing them to retire to the home where they REALLY want to live.

Note to mention that my father was 'slowly' suggesting the idea to move to a 'worst' (but more affordable) place, and my mother was horrified with the whole idea. Do you imagine an adult woman (also one of the best performers as drama queens in town) yelling in Spanish? No, you don't. That's my mother LMAO.

To end

And that's it! As I said tomorrow we are going to sign papers. So tomorrow... apart from owning a little internet empire I'm buying (the 10%!) of my first property. Big things start smol!

I'm feeling... proud for me & my sister since it's a way for us of saying 'thanks for everything' to our elders. Truly it's one of my (our) best decisions ever.

Remember, If you made some wealth in crypto, it's never a bad decision to take something out of the game and 'pay yourself'.

Most important theme of this post; Take care of your parents. Trust me, it's worth it.

wholeheartedly;

Classy move by you and your sister as this was the right move. I wish more would take care of their parents. Here we have granny flats which are more like a small apartment being part of the main house so they can stay with their kids in their later years.

That is great that you are able to give them that security. Awesome that you setup a new witness. I currently have my vote proxied to leo. You should get with them to see if they will upvote you.

That's a great outcome empo! It is definitely gratifying when you're able to take care of your family in need.

How sweet of you guys to do that to your parents, it is the best thing we can pay back to our parents. We need to think about them and give them comfortable life when they retire. You are lucky you still have parents to give back to :)

Best use for crypto money!
Congratulations

Nice Dude.

For me reverse happened. My parents funded 30% of my house cost so that I do not look at "affordable/worst" option for buying.

Decent :)

My bro and I did the same with my mothers mortgage a while back. It felt good as she gave up a lot to give us the best upbringing she could manage.

Legend.

Incredible thing you and your sister did for your parents. Congrats!

Awesome. Legend!

Being able to help is an awesome feeling. Special in that situation you describe, it sounds like something life-changing in long term for them.

GM Buddy!

Btw as @trumpman mentioned, some nudes from hottie we want to see!

I cried, good job. Enough said.

I believe this is true.
Congratulations

I don't know if you own your own house, but I feel this was a smart choice based on the fact that your dad is concerned on your mum not having a stable place and having to worry about rent when he's no longer there. I don't know if he knows about your internet enpire but for sure be might still be in awe in bow you and sister managed to pull that one off. It's great to put plans like this in place, like you said, when one has wealth in Crypto it's advisable to own things. Property and all. Congratulations.

I don't own my house and no plans short-term :)

that was a very wholesome story mate :) The reason I'm into crypto is to be able to afford a place of my own some day. Real estate is the best investment if you have the capital and knowledge to make it work.
Good luck and alk the best to you and your family :)

Thank you everyone for the comments, I'm signing in a couple hours and I won't hide that I'm somewhat nervous. Dropping a few upvotes between all the commenters!

A good memory for the rest of life!

This is the best post of the year, even though there are almost 11 months left.

What you are giving to your parents (you and your sister) is priceless. The thought of living a life without worries can't be expressed or measured up in money or anything else. At their age, having a home on their own and not being worried about it anymore means the world. There comes an certain age when stability is everything.

Thanks for sharing your story. Many could learn from you!

It's nice to see your family get together to help get the house.

That's great! Congratulations on achieving that dream! I hope I'll be able to do the same for my dad one day.

Very nice mate!
I like it when families can actually function as a family. :)

A great testimony how we can change the lives of others. In this instance, it is someone close to you and who you care deeply about.

The fact is most people view those with resources as greedy or evil. That is often not the case. Money tends to simply make us more of what we already are.

Those who are miserly and mean, money only makes them more so. The other side is those who are grateful and giving can also be more of that.

It is probably a great relief to your sister and yourself that your parents are taken care of in terms of their living situation. That is something that, as we get older, can be of concern.

Awesome story! It's really cool to see the meaningful real-life examples of what this place can do for peoples' lives. Hopefully as HIVE continues to rise we'll start seeing more and more of these stories. Well done!

It's funny that you mentioned your witness. I was literally checking my votes yesterday and saw your name so I added you to my voting list before seeing this article. :-)
