"Givers never lack".
There were many virtues my late Dad tried to instill in us as kids. One of them was lending a helping hand to those in need. We were raised believing that there was a reward for generiosity and the most successful people should be the most generous. Actually, the lesson there was that our generiosity should be the propeller for success, not necessarily the other way round.
It isn't uncommon to find a lot of wealthy people today engage in acts of giving. People are quite generous when there's an abundance of resources. Even if you want to be conservative, society compels you (and perhaps rightfully so) to be generous with abundant wealth. Yet even amongst the majority of everyday people, there are extraordinary givers that humble the top earners of society.
It isn't in capacity but in cost. Many are willing to share a large portion of the little they have while most of us can barely make do with the portion that comes our way. Such people may not experience transformative changes in their status but they'll definitely win over support by virtue of their lifestyle. I personally have made loyal customers and acquaintances simply by offering to help out.
Giving is also more than financial support. I like people who are generous with their compassion and their energy. There are those whose energy in the workplace can rally the entire force, I've worked under quite a few and hope someday someone would describe me in that manner. It is rare to find someone who genuinely cares about something or someone that doesn't give something costly to same.
Intention is such a winner when giving. People can smell insincerity from a mile away, which explains the issues we see with our political class today. Genuine giving is a function of the heart, and I believe we're always in a position to give something. Even when we're in a position to get something, It feels way better to receive when a heart is filled with giving.
