So I came across an article here on Hive that talked about how the number one Only Fans content creator, a 20 year old girl going by Sophia Rain, raked in over $40 Million over the past few years from her Only fans account. Initially I was understandably startled, as those figures are quite staggering for whatever field if you look at it. Yet as I gave it a fair bit of thought, I can't criticise the girl for capitalising on the opportunity that the system has brought her.
Her audience is mostly young men who apparently believe they are getting value from their subscriptions. Now I probably will be a lot harder on the subscribers, but I'll refrain from judging as it still is besides the point I want to make. Instead, I'll focus on the message that such such has provided and that's there is a ridiculous amount of internet money to be made out there, and perhaps the not so great part is that there are tons of young people who are taking the digital experience to the extreme.
I just heard about the lady and didn't bother to check out her page, but from what I heard there's not much going on there. She doesn't post nudity or porn, but rather suggestive and erotic videos and images that work the mind of her audience. Am simply just surprised she's gathered so much of an audience. That brings me to my next point. The next generations interest in the digital space is likely going to be very different from what people like me in their late 30s knew it for. There are whole new markets that they'll create and we'll probably keep looking on as outsiders in their digital World.
My only fear is that I hope the real World isn't abandoned for a virtual one. There's still so much that it can offer and perhaps we should be showing the younger generation that. As much as I appreciate the opportunities the virtual space has brought, I'll always take the great outdoors over screen time.
