Work Benefits: What you Consider the most Important?

Hello everyone, i hope you are all well. I believe that the vast majority of people reading this already have a day job. We might have some people who actually own a business or are freelancers though. You all came across a job either full-time or part-time most likely and as you know each job comes with certain benefits and ofc way more responsibilities.

Of course, not all jobs offer benefits in some countries or specific jobs this is quite rare to be honest. Now the benefits can be different and you can have more than one. I will display below some of them in order to have a bigger picture of what the companies offer out there:

Health Insurance

This is something quite common. Many companies offer private health insurance to their employees that depending on the program is covers some medical expenses. For example, it can cover some yearly blood tests, free doctor visits and such. It can also cover around some cost or even the full cost, if the health insurance is top tier, of a surgery for example. As i mentioned this is something quite common that most of the big companies offer!

Flexible Hours

This is something that many people crave. This can be divided into 2 categories. The first one offers flexibility in the form of choosing when to start working between 2-3 alternatives. For example, you can start at 08:00 or 09:00 or 10:00 and work your 8 hours.

The second category is that you have to basically work 8 hours per day but you can do so anytime throughout the day. This is more typical to works around IT like programming and such and indeed can prove quite awesome for someone who doesn't like waking up early.

Commute Benefits

Most people need at an average of at least 1 hour to simply go to their workplace. 1 hour by driving or using trains and buses. This as you can imagine is costly and some companies offer to cover the monthly train expense or their offer a certain amount of money for the gas.

Discounts

This is another common benefit that especially big corporation provide their employees. Because they are big and have ties with many other companies, possibly as clients as well, they offer certain discounts to their employees. For instance, a 20%-30% discount at stores that sell electronics and clothes. Again depending on your needs it can be useful, either way, it's "free".

Food & Beverages

This is something quite new that many companies do in order to bring more people to the office or make them stay in the company instead of searching for a hybrid or remote role. This is basically something like free coffee, free fruits and snacks in the office. I don't know about you but i would prefer to stay in my home than drive 2 hours back and forth for a cup of coffee and a fruit.

Stock Options

This benefit basically offers employees the right to buy shares of the company at a set price after a certain period of time. This is a bit of a gamble as it can prove quite good if the company moons but if the company goes to the hellhole so will the stocks!

Extra Paid Time Off

Another cool thing that i believe many people like or will like is extra paid time off. Basically, we all have a specific number of vacation days per year and it's fixed based on the laws of each country. Some companies though, offer more vacation days than the law says and to add to that they pay for it. This can be quite cool because it's literally a paid day that you can do anything you want except work!

Wellness Progam

This includes gym subcriptions, yoga classes or videos and such. Depending on what type of person you are it can be a good benefit or something that you will never use.

Training

Some companies offer training in different forms. It can be training by a senior employee which is often but you can receive training through paid courses which ofc you will have access to for free. Certain companies go a step further offering specific certifications or masters that can cost up to 10000$-20000$.

Ofc there is a catch when huge amounts enter the game. For instance, in some cases, you will receive the money if you pass the courses. Also, you need to stay in the company for 3-4 years. If you decide to leave earlier then you will have to pay a certain amount of the money given.

Remote Working

I think you already know what's this. You basically work from your home and you don't have to visit the office at all. If it's a hybrid model then you need to be at office at least once per week but most likely 2-3 days per week!

What Benefits i Prefer

To tell you the truth, besides health insurance which almost every mid-big company in Europe offers i really like working fully remote. I honestly feel better working from my home, i feel more productive, i sleep and eat better and above everything i don't have to spend 2 hours of my life per day and some money for commuting. That's huge for me!

Maybe after working fully remote i would like to have as an additional benefit the extra paid vacation days. Who wouldn't like more days off doing anything that he/she wants and getting paid for it?
