Splinterlands DHF Proposal Might Get Funded After All
After a while of the Splinterlands DHF proposal being so close to being funded and yet so far, I realized this situation might be kept on the edge but far enough on purpose, waiting for something... concrete to unblock it.
So, what happened? From my understanding, @lordbutterfly - who is a long-time Splinterlands player/investor and has direct contacts to many top Hive stakeholders - negotiated a potential agreement which resulted in a SPS DAO proposal, where some conditions are listed for passing the Splinterlands DHF proposal (having the additional support of shakeholders owning about 4m HP).
Here's the gist of the conditions:
- The SPL DAO will stake 1 million HIVE for a minimum of 24 months.
- 130k USDT or 130k USDC will be moved into the Hive stablecoin - HBD via Hive conversion
- A small print "Powered by Hive" along with Hive branding in a visible place inside the game website and on every DHF-funded marketing material
- Full transparency on how the DHF received funds are used will be provided by the Splinterlands company
- SPL will not request more funds from the DHF unless the party (group?) that votes them above the return proposal agrees the current marketing campaign was a success
- if the return proposal is increased, the same stakeholders will unvote it
You can read all the details here.
The draft SPS DAO proposal currently receives an overwhelming support from the SPS stakeholders.
Now that the Pandora's box has been opened, I can hardly wait for the conditions imposed to future DHF proposals to pass the return proposal. A few of them really deserve strict(er) conditions.
Full transparency on DHF funds usage should be there and enforced on every DHF proposal. A way to prevent continuous funding (recurrent funded proposals) with little delivery should also be available to stakeholders by the DHF design. Otherwise, they'll find ways to block you, which may not be very enjoyable.
There are risks with this SPS.DAO proposal. And yet, the SPS stakeholders seem more willing to take risks than the Hive stakeholders were with the Splinterlands DHF proposal for a considerable amount of time. Maybe there's something to learn from this.

Hivefest Updates
Three new speakers were announced to this year's Hivefest:
- @grampo, speaking about an open protocol that can allow Hive users to insert maps into their public profiles
- @elmirabear speaking about her experience trying to develop a DAO for a museum in Vienna.
- @thebeedevs will talk about the tools they've been developing for Hive (Clive is one of them)
We also learn that the Hive Rally car will be at Hivefest and the attendees with a good stomach may be taken for a ride as a copilot on a track near Split.
You read more from here.
Memories from Hive at Blockchain Rio
Hive had a participation this summer at what was described as the biggest crypto conference/event in LATAM, if my memory serves me well: Blockchain Rio. Content on Hive regarding this event was kind of scarce, but I found this great post from one of the participants, @vaipraonde.
Hive in Colombia for Blockchain Summit Latam
Hive is present in Bogotá for Blockchain Summit Latam in the 14-16 August period, as we learn from this Spanish announcement.

Why Was HBD Chosen as a Stablecoin for VSC?
In an article mostly outward oriented, @vaultec explains why they chose HBD as a stablecoin for the VSC project, after comparing it to USDT, USDC, and DAI. Its decentralized nature, censorship resistance, fast and free transactions are among the features that made it stand out. Interest was mentioned as well, as a point in HBD's favor, currently at 15%.
Ecency Has a New Mobile Update
The update was mainly focused on streamlining wallet loading and fetching balances, which doesn't need multiple API calls anymore.
The new version also improves Polls, plus a few other minor changes.
Here's the announcement.
Games
Splinterlands - New Reward Cards Set
Yesterday, the Chaos Legion (soulbound) reward cards set was sunset from the Glint Shop and replaced with the Rebellion one. At the same time, old soulbound reward cards now become unbindable at a fee of 10x their collection power in DEC to burn for the first month, and increasing by 1x every month until the 6th month, after which all remaining soulbound Chaos Legion reward cards remain soulbound.
The half-surprise compared to the initial announcement was the new Glint prices in the shop for the new chests and draws, which in some cases were significantly increased. The Splinterlands Town Hall from this week talks more about this, as well as all the plans the team has until the year end, which include lots of promos, and... skins and cosmetics, besides what was known like the final push toward making the website mobile responsive and new-player experience. Land is the Cinderella of the game, and always left at the end. No wonder common plots are below their selling price from the presale.
Holozing Updates
The team revealed their dragon creatures (for which there is a naming contest going on).
More importantly, we have a recap of the game modes we will have in Holozing. I really like that you can set a time period when to encounter creatures or fight in PvP battles.

Small Hive Meetup in Novi Sad, Serbia
@ph1102 announced that he organizes a small meetup in Novi Sad, Serbia, tomorrow, August, 17th. Anyone is welcome. I suppose, at this time, only people who live nearby and haven't seen the announcements or haven't confirmed would be able to go.
Week in the Crypto World
Bitcoin Is No Longer For the People
Just two articles I noticed at a first glance published during the last few days to confirm the title. Mass adoption happens, but it's not for the regular people, they will be the last to adopt, when all they'll be part of will be a bunch of derivatives and derivatives to derivatives.
National Pension Service (NPS) of South Korea, the 3rd biggest pension fund in the world, purchased $34m worth of MicroStrategy shares in Q2.
The State of Wisconsin Investment Board (SWIB), an independent agency handling assets for Wisconsin’s retirement and state investment funds, has announced increasing their holdings in BlackRock's IBIT to 2.89m shares. Here are some details.
So we have pension funds interested and taking action, but usually through proxies. They don't want to mess around holding the crypto assets directly.
From the same news feed we find out how much Morgan Stanley or Goldman Sachs have in Bitcoin ETFs or Bitcoin being purchased with debt by the largest publicly traded Bitcoin miner.
These are only a few recent examples from publicly traded companies or funds. But I'm sure closed funds and companies act too, they just don't need to report publicly what they are doing.
