In the Spotlight
Splinterlands SPS DAO Proposals and More
Lots of things have been happening in the Splinter-lands recently. A little over two weeks ago, Splinterlands created a SPS DAO proposal that kind of took everyone by surprise, which basically proposed that the DAO should pay cryptomancer's work hours for Splinterlands for a year. Since then, there were some amendments to the draft proposal and a SPS DAO Town Hall where Matt and cryptomancer explained the situation better than in the proposal, and that turned out to be convincing. The proposal passed with a surprisingly high 93% favorable vote, but it's not like there were other good options.
The second proposal regards another request for funding by Splinterlands to develop, launch and operate the next core set, which will likely be called Conclave Arcana. You can read all about it here. What I like about this proposal is that you can see they try to appeal to different categories of investors, but most importantly, you can see a sound strategy for new players with the introduction of the Starter Packs (with other bits of the NPE explained in the SPS DAO Town Hall linked above or already released as steps of the Tech Modernization process). This proposal will also bring back revenue to the SPS DAO, if approved, but not before paying a significant amount upfront to fund development of the new core set. Judging by the votes on the draft, with 90% for the proposal at 181m SPS stake voting, this proposal will pass without any issues.
And finally, a little unofficial mention, @cryptomancer said in the People's Guild podcast where he was invited, that he saw in the internal team's communication channel someone new being welcomed that was presented as handling marketing. So, it is possible Splinterlands hired someone for marketing, which is the target of the DHF proposal.
There is something else for landowners, which they might be aware of already, but I'd rather write a separate post about that very soon.
Marketing / Awareness / Branding
Crowded Hive Bar in Amsterdam
Like last year, Hive had a bar at TechEX conference in Amsterdam. That seemed to be a magnet last year, so we repeated it. And we can genuinely see the bar area filled with people in this video. The question is: was it the free drinks only or were they interested in Hive to an extent? I hope both...
I've also seen there was a presentation about the Hive Boreholes Project in Ghana at TechEX this year again (from the first image on this post), but I haven't come across a post that goes more in details yet.
Inleo Is Pursuing Integration with Dash
In the first phase, they are looking into providing a login option directly with a Dash wallet. Later on, Khal mentioned they are thinking into offering an option to withdraw earnings as Dash... Some details were offered in the Dash Podcast where Khal was invited.
Vibes and Marketing
Let's take a look at some marketing efforts from participants into the Vibes contest who want some extra rewards / prizes.
List of Hive-Friendly Subreddits
In the attempt to incentivize back-linking to Hive from Reddit, Posh published a list of subreddits that apparently are either friendly or at least not opposing to sharing links from Hive front ends.
Governance / Development / Dapps / Education
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) on Hive
The Hive Keychain team presented this week a method of using 2FA on Hive, based on multisigs (note that this project has been funded by the DHF separately from Hive Keychain).
They created a bot (in beta), which will be given partial authority over an account that uses this 2FA method, to sign transactions when a one-time-password is correctly introduced, while the account owner retains partial authority as well. The owner can run their own bot or use the one provided by the Keychain team. Here are the details.
Multisig 2FA has also been integrated in the Hive Keychain v. 3.7 BETA extension. It will be available for everyone in a few weeks if testing goes well.
New Hive Core Developers Meeting
Another (mostly) monthly Hive core devs meeting took place recently and you can listen to the recording or read the transcript here.
The status of various projects were presented, as always. For the regular user, I'm not sure I can extract something interesting to catch their attention, other than the fact that the HF date was pushed to December 11th (and that's not set in stone either). One of the reasons for pushing back the date is that they discovered something else they can work on on HiveD that will take some time and they want to include it in this HF.
I tend to believe they want to time the HF better, well into the bull run, if all things go well, rather than go with it out these days and be mostly ignored by the markets.
Guidelines for WorldMapPin Travel Content
WorldMapPin published some pretty long guidelines for posting travel content into their community. Maybe the length comes from the post being bilingual, in English and Spanish.
Games
Rising Star: Halloween Mission Started
Rising Star is one of the most popular (and quite successful) games on Hive. They often have these special missions associated with special days. In this case, the Halloween special mission.
Exode Has a New Interface
The Exode game has a new interface, we learn from its creator's post.
Communities / Meetups
Hive Goes to School Is Back
A new school year started for the HIVEED project, the second one. This time it will be one semester, with the possibility to extend it to the second semester.
Week in the Crypto World
Legal Frameworks for DAOs
DAOs may become important economic players in the future. Countries that are ahead of the curve are trying to attract them to have a legal entity in their jurisdiction and pay taxes, offering some sort of legal clarity in this case.
While I'm not sure DAOs will ever be well-suited to become an entity in the real world, we can't ignore these developments. Apparently, there is already a legal framework to register a DAO in Switzerland, it is way more costly than it will be in the UAE. Here are some details.
Microstrategy - Future "Bitcoin Bank"
Michael Saylor - a person bitcoin maxis look upon like a God but I can't stand - presented what the future holds for Microstrategy, which would be a "Bitcoin Bank", and that practically means derivatives and products around the bitcoin they amass. That means they'll keep the bitcoins and the fouls will get some contracts based on derivatives of bitcoin, but never real bitcoin. Here are some details.
What do you think BlackRock will do? Or the others? Anyway, forget about bitcoin's decentralization, it will be a myth soon enough.
