Week on Hive

21 of 45 tracked posts made it to this week's issue of the "Week on Hive" roundup.

In the Spotlight

HIVE Debit Card Anyone? 😀

I've just seen this short clip from @starkerz where he and @jthomasewsky are finishing off the proof of concept for Hive Debit Cards and made a little demonstration.

This is a "one tap to spend HBD" thing and involves a physical card. Can also be used directly with lightning accounts, from the short description provided.

Looking forward for more details, but it will likely be a fantastic development for the ease of use and adoption of HBD (and lightning) on e-commerce. Somehow, I believe the spread of HBD as a means of payment will increase once a debit card will be introduced, mainly because older people are conditioned to trust debit cards more than mobile apps.

This debit card isn't one that works in one of the major networks of ATMs like Visa or Mastercard, or whatever. This debit card works with a mobile app, from what I could see in the clip.

From my point of view, and I've seen @starkerz's too on other occasions, this is even better, because paying with a mobile app is the future of payments (at least until smartphones are disrupted), not ATMs or POS'es. Every mobile phone that installs the payment app becomes a POS.

HIVE is undervalued. I agree with @theycallmedan.

Marketing / Awareness / Branding

New Hive Listings

HIVE was listed on two exchanges recently. We have a new spot listing on BitMart last week, and a perpectual futures contract listing on Kraken a few days ago. Would be nice if Kraken listed HIVE on the spot market, though...

In the same category, Binance continues to run deals to attract liquid HIVE on their exchange...

Updated Inleo Proposal. Same Deal at Half the Cost to the DHF (the Other Half Covered by Inleo, Says the Proposal).

Inleo updated its marketing proposal slated to partner with more ecosystems on the model they used with Dash.

The new proposal makes it clearer for those who didn't know, what this proposal isn't for (not for development, not for funding operational expenses, not for paying partners), and exactly what it is for: 50k USD for each integration, for co-marketing purposes, matching 50k from each partner.

But it looks like the amount seemed too much for large Hive stakeholders to vote on the proposal, and Inleo updated it even further, to make it more cost-effective for the Hive DAO:

Inleo will put 25k USD per integration if the DHF matches that amount.

That practically slashes the requested funded in half, while the amount needed remains the same, as pre-negotiated with the ecosystems to be integrated, according to the proposal.

Stakeholders who already upvoted the old proposal don't need to do anything. Their votes carry over to the updated proposal.

Best Potential New Subreddits to Share Hive Posts

@x-rain shares an analysis of the best subreddits to share links to blogs of various platforms, in an attempt to find new places where Hive posts could be successfully shared. He is careful in mentioning that some of these subreddits may have strict rules and you need to check them out.

Proof of Share Call to Action

@hive-echo initiated another proof of share call to action. Participants should distribute materials found in given locations via social media, and be rewarded based on their reach. See the rules here.

Borehole 19 Launched in Ghana

The 19th Hive-funded borehole was launched in Ghana, as announced by the two project managers.

Hive Rally Car Finished the Monte Carlo Race

The driver posts about it on his Hive account.

Governance / Development / Dapps / Education

CBRS Podcast

@coldbeetrootsoup are consistent with their weekly podcast, reaching episode 15 already. They talk about Hive and news related to our ecosystem in a relaxed manner, with jokes and even some teasers about what's to come soon, without saying anything else...

Distriator Updates

A couple of posts came out this week about small updates to Distriator. In one of them, filtering users was added, to be able to quickly search for a username where a list of users is presented, on various pages.

In other posts, @sagarkothari88 talks about stats breaking down Distriator claims by country (and showing a pie chart - dominated by Nigeria and Venezuela) and connecting and disconnecting Dash with a Hive account.

The Crazy GM Hive Tools

@ecoinstant launched this collection of small Hive tools about a week ago. They have been listed on Hive Keychain on their ecosystem page, under Tool, and they are open source.

Brazil List (of Hivers)

@steevc created and maintains a number of country-based lists of Hive users, which he updates from time to time. The lists are auto-generated based on the location set by users in their profile, but he does update them based on users feedback as well.

He just updated the list of Hivers from Brazil.

Of course, some Hivers prefer their anonymity including when it comes to their location, and this is ok, in my opinion. Others may be digital nomads, in which case a location isn't very useful. The project is still very helpful, for example, for local meetups.

Upvotes and Delegation Rewards for GIFU

Are you a GIFU fan? Do you hold plenty of them? I don't know if this includes both holdings on Hive-Engine and BSC, but this is what they say in their post:

50k $Gifu - 0.75% Upvote
5 Million $Gifu - 75% Upvote

They also incentivize HP delegations to @gifufaithful with rewards as SWAP.GIFU.

Splinterlands Updates

Numbers Set For Land 1.75

@cryptomancer announced in discord the set numbers for production rates per hour for the new resources that will be added in Land 1.75:

  • Wood: 0.005
  • Stone: 0.002
  • Iron: 0.0005

The production rate for Grain is and remains at 0.02 per hour.

The new resources will be needed to produce SPS & Research, on top of Grain to feed the workers.

Details in discord (messages pinned in land-barons channel).

Training Mode and Survival Mode Open on Test Server

Another big announcement in Splinterlands discord was that they opened Training mode and Survival mode on the Mavs server.

Training mode is formerly known as the Practice mode, and was revamped to now be able to train against bots of different levels of expertise.

Survival mode is the new game mode that will soon be launched.

Hyper Rail Blaster Whitepaper

From the Invennium side, @khan.dayyanz put forth the whitepaper of a new arcade game for the Arcade Colony (already playable). The next step is to create a proposal for the Arcade Colony DAO to receive 15m COLONY per year for 5 years to fund rewards, and then integrate with Arcade Colony. I'd suggest to give it a read and a try if you like arcade games.

Crownrend Tutorial Contest

Crownrend launched a tutorial contest for the game, with prizes in DENAR. Contest ends tomorrow, February 1st.

Holozing Updates

Acid talks about healer abilities and creature moves, shows a few small screenshots directly from the game, and says the development is going well, hoping to releasing the alpha version soon. He also mentions the game doesn't have its own UI yet.

In a separate post, Acid encourages fanart creators to participate in creating the physical and digital collections, and sets certain base rules that are helpful for consistency.

Week in the Crypto World

AI Makes Some Waves

While this is not directly linked to crypto, DeepSeek launched its AI models and made some waves. We know AIs and crypto are or will be highly interconnected though.

Speaking of AIs and crypto, Venice.ai, a smaller, privacy-oriented player in the AI world launched its own token, VVV, on Base. Interestingly, they offer users access to the new hot model in town, DeepSeek, with a layer of privacy.

Old users of Venice.ai also received an airdrop of VVV. That doesn't extend to anyone who used the AI as a guest (like I did, for example 🙁). There have been some accusations of insider trading of VVV.

Changing Narratives: US Banks 'Perfectly Able' to Serve Crypto Customers

Decrypt starts its article very inspired: "No more debanking?...". 😀

After the administration changed and so did their stance on crypto, Fed Chair Jerome Powell says that US banks are 'perfectly able' to serve crypto customers.

On the other side of the Atlantic, the Chech's Central Bank may or may not allocate a portion of their foreign exchange reserves into other asset classes. For now, they assess the possibility.

I didn't know that. Thanks for mentioning!

One kid like this is worth all the rally cars in the world.

I agree!! Even though it's the first time I see him.

check his blog and scroll back to late 2023. but if not, I am working on a collection post now on the story of j thomasewsky :joy:

I followed him. I have the impression it won't be the last we hear from him, and some of the things he has to share could become subjects of this weekly news roundup.

You are in a bunch of his posts including the 1st 😀

Such a cool thing to have builders like him join Hive. I couldn't pull of what he did. Debit card is gonna do wonders for Hive branding! It'll even open many doors.

Best part is once users join Hive - SocialFi can work to retain them around and use more Dapps. Can't forget what we get from @mayaprotocol integration: https://inleo.io/@khaleelkazi/introducing-leo-merchants-pay-with-any-crypto-using-inleo-settlement-in-hive-hbd-geh

A lot of what Khal is building can be hooked into by other projects. We have a small collab in testing and ready to launch this week. We WILL hook into any collabs possible around the chain, and frankly khal's stuff is some of the most hookable stuff.

Building is hard, but I see the vision now that I can hook in and "help" by using the tech.

Also: it takes a builder to onboard a builder. This kid would have been missed if we only had the liketu girls there.

khal's stuff is some of the most hookable stuff

That's really cool to know!

if we only had the liketu girls there

Never really got into the whole thing. I've seen some huge votes there. Having some diversity of Dapps is good. Folks following thirst traps are users too. We're a free speech platform too.

Now if we can get liketu users to spend their rewards on merchants it'll be really awesome! Web 3 is the only place I know users can earn from day 1 without gate keeping.

Thanks for the mention. I've not had time for my Friday post. There's a lot going on.

Thanks for the mention.

Sure, these can be useful lists for those interested.

There's a lot going on.

... and I simply ignored half of what I had on my list because this post would have gone too big and cluttered.

I've not had time for my Friday post.

I understand. I have a super-busy weekend too.

Congratulations @gadrian! You have completed the following achievement on the Hive blockchain And have been rewarded with New badge(s)

A lot happened, but the idea of a Hive debit card is interesting. I know some people use their phone to pay for things now and it would be interesting to see that for Hive as well.

I'd like to see the idea of the Hive debit card catch up, for sure. Not that we couldn't pay directly with an app, but as I said, it would help with the adoption.

Debit card is such a flex to have! Some people just look at hype & image. Debit card is HYPE & IMAGE 🚀

Yep, that's branding and trust built for Hive with every wallet that has one and person that uses it.

It's always uplifting to listen to theycallmedan man is so passionate about what we gave here and what we're building and the future as well. We can never have another Dan.

In another life maybe he was a preacher. And a very good one.

I've been privileged to talk with him a few times lol and honestly I'm certain we can never have another "him"

Before he 'disclosed' himself as a big stakeholder on the other chain and maybe even after that, I remember talking to him quite often in the comments section with his alt account, I don't remember now which it was. But only later I discovered it was him.

Thank you for mentioning me! I searched for subreddits that brought the most upvotes for link shares of other blogging platforms (medium, worpdress, blogpost) just to learn from competitors. This research of mine bore fruit today: one of the HivePosh active users tried the subreddits I had found and one of his shares received almost 2000 upvotes after several hours. Soon, we'll know more details, like, how many hundreds of visitors it brought to Hive.

You guys are doing a fantastic work on Reddit, in my opinion. There are chances to find some users from there interested in blogging on Hive. And that without paying for advertising or forcing people in.

I'm sure you'll write about those stats and I'll be interested to see them too. Thanks for your comment!

Thank you! I will share, of course. :)
