Hello everyone,
As some of you must have known, I am an artist and I've been selling my NFT arts on Nftshowroom which is one of the best art online gallery for a young artist. Just this year I decided to join opensea as most of my artist friends have put their work up in different galleries. I wanted the exposure so at the beginning of this year, I created those three amazing drawings and I put them up for sale on Opensea. One amazing thing I noticed which I didn't notice before when I was on NFTshowroom alone is the struggle to be noticed as an artist. Struggle for your work to be appreciated. Just to get familiar with the opensea world, I started joining some spaces on Twitter and in one of them, I was advised to lower my price because its too expensive(which I did eventually from 0.2ETH to 0.1ETH). It kind of hurt that you put in extra work and your work will be priced for such low amount. Yet you'd see some artwork that are just below the standard(not that I'm saying there is a bad art but then again) being sold for millions of dollars. The struggle to be recognised as an artist most especially a young and unknown black artist is hard.
Yes some people are being noticed and they make sales once in a while but that's just a small fraction. I follow lot of artist with amazing artwork with no sale. Just yesterday I was talking with someone in the NFT space and he said it pays him to buy just an egg for 8ethereum and above but will find it hard to buy my 1/1 artwork for 0.2ETH(now 0.1ETH). And lot of great artists face this everyday. Ive had friends quite on creating art for NFTs due to these reasons. I really don't understand this. I'm not going to quit though. I draw because it makes me happy and it gives me joy. I draw because I know what I do is beautiful. No amount of word or discouragement will make me stop. I just hope the NFT world will become more favourable for traditional digital artists.
