The Buzz Around Power Down

in #hive-16792217 days ago

As you would know the recent complete Hive Power down period is 13 weeks which some people see as something that is a prolonged time to get your Hive in a liquid state. But at the same time, this powerdown process helps maintain the stability of the network and security by preventing immediate large withdrawals.

A recent poll by @acidyo drew my attention to the issue.

The 13-week powerdown duration can look lengthy as compared to other blockchain platforms where this thing is faster. This can discourage new users or those who are familiar with faster liquidity. As many users are accustomed to getting their assets liquidated quickly, the 13-week powerdown on Hive may seem inconvenient or excessive for them.

No doubt that it makes it harder for users to access their funds quickly but at the same time, let's not forget that the lengthy powerdown period could also help in preventing large-scale withdrawals which could destabilize the network.

Having shorter powerdown periods like 4 weeks or even 1 week could make the system more attractive. Flexibility could be provided via a tiered approach that allows users to select a faster powerdown option subject to specific conditions or costs.

Allowing users to powerdown their Hive in smaller or frequent increments could address the liquidity concerns while providing a reasonable protection against sudden exits.

Putting in place a hybrid model, like a 4-week gradual powerdown followed by a larger lump sum payout at the end, could help balance the needs of users for faster access with the requirements of stability of the network.

It could help improve the system over time by regularly gathering feedback from users about their experiences with the process of powerdown and open to adjustments based on that feedback.

Hive needs to find a balance between providing faster access to funds and maintaining the stability and security of the Hive network. By exploring various possibilities and making adjustments in response to user feedback, Hive can improve its powerdown procedure to better meet the needs of its community, as after all, in the end, it's about the community.
