I have been having deep thoughts these last few days after a friend confided in me and it has made me write this post to get clues from the wider community.

A close friend recently( I think either a week or less)came to me asking for a loan of around $500 and unfortunately, I could not help him!

Now $500 this side of the world ie Africa or Uganda to be precise is good money ie 1.8M UGX!

My friend confided in me and talked about how he had an emergency and has so far asked/spoken to many people to lend/ borrow him money and the response is so discouraging!

By the way, what is the right word to use? Is it borrowed or lent? Anyway, fuck it as long as you have understood what I am saying hahaha.

Unfortunately, I did not have enough money with me as the people I borrowed/lent money to some months back hadn't paid me back yet...

So I could not help him! And hence I was cash strapped.

Is Everyone Cash Strapped Right Now?

This brings me to the topic of this post, Is almost everyone currently cash-strapped the world over or it is just this part of the world ie my country?

I have been seeing memes of people joking that if you lend/borrow someone money in January, it's all your fault!

What they are trying to say is that it is kinda not safe or financial sense to borrow/lend to another person in January!

It looks like it is a norm for people to be broke in this part of the world during the month of January!

Is that the same from your side of the world?

The most common excuse my friend told me was that almost (90%) each person he asked for a loan told him that they spent most of their money during the Christmas season so they have nothing spare left at the moment.

So folks is everyone broke during January from that side of your world?

I seriously want to know if it is a universal thing or if brokenness in January just happens in third-world countries hahaha.

I have to admit that I felt so bad that I could not help my friend with a big sum of money as most of my money is tied up by my debtors!

Are People Broke or They Just Don't want to Help My Friend

As we kept on talking my friend became so emotional and he either thought that maybe people just do not want to loan him money!

We discussed this possibility in length as he told me that there are/were some friends he was sure of had that kind of money he needed or at least half of it .

He was divided between people generally being broke and also blatantly refusing to loan him money hahaha

He actually regretted the times he helped people by loaning them money, I had to console my friend at this moment because shit was getting out of hand for him.

Anyway, I hope he gets the money he needs and solves his problem.

So in conclusion, is everyone cash strapped right now or it is just my friend's circle of friends.

Let me hear you views in the comment section

I hope your friend find a solution.
Unfortunately, January is certainly not the best time to borrow money from other people.

Among the expenses for the Christmas holidays (which are always extras)
bills
rentals
and basic necessities you get to practically zero in January.

For example, I live in Italy and at this moment, after paying all the expenses, I have just enough money to do some shopping... a lot of savings though.

So maybe it's also the period, maybe not for all lvvio, but maybe for most people.

Even the people who attract money are feeling cash strapped, although they handle it better than other people.

Since at least 2020 things have been happening worldwide which affect people's cash flow. Since January 2021 policies have been implemented which exacerbate already bad situations such as supply chain troubles and scarcity of goods. War in Ukraine is making bad things worse when it comes to agricultural and energy costs.

Things in the US are OK relatively speaking, but price inflation is rising faster than wage increases, so people who work are losing buying power and paying more to get less at the stores. I expect everything to go up in price by a lot. Even people with money to burn will be shocked at how much will be charged for basic goods such as eggs and coffee.

If the current leaders remain in place and the current plans remain in effect, I expect things to get much worse for us worldwide.
