Lessons To Learn From Hive's 4th Birthday

On this day in 2020, the Hive Blockchain was born, created its first block and the rest is history. I used to remember when Justin Sun came on board and the chain, its stakeholders, developers, and community members were all divided as to whether Sun meant well for steem or not, but as time went on, his intentions became known. He wanted to merge Tron with steem, like a form of Siamese or joint Blockchain or whatever.

However everyone didn't like the idea; the witnesses, the people, everyone. What Sun didn't understand was that he didn't own steem, he only owned Steemit the frontend. If the community hadn't stood up for itself, we wouldn't have what we call Hive today. Although a shitty name at that, Hive is a thriving Blockchain today (imperfect, yes but functional) Everyone on Steem stood against Syn. He was an Oligarch billionaire who wanted to buy the community, their voice, experience, and stories but unfortunately, he couldn't.

We're probably not as united as we were anymore, but we stood up for ourselves and shout-out to blocktrades and the other witnesses who made this chain a possibility. It's a typical life lesson. A lot of times in life we're faced with oppositions bigger than we can ever imagine. A friend called me yesterday. She was basically falling apart and was almost in tears. Life hasn't treated her well and she's lost mostly all the employment opportunities that came her way. She felt abandoned and betrayed, she felt like her friends hadn't turned up for her and that they were probably doing better than her.

She sulked on and bittered too. She spoke this way because she had been fighting life for a long time and losing in so many aspects. I told her something after encouraging her. I told her that she alone can stand up for herself. It reminded me of how I fell apart when I newly lost my brother. I realized that no one will fight your battles, even when we think they could help, it changes your concept about life and humanity but it makes you believe in yourself alone no matter how broken you are.

It's not like I'm not still falling apart but I've come to I've come to understand that no one will stand up for you, your battles are yours alone and you just have to find creative ways to fight it. During the hostile takeover, it was obvious we couldn't negotiate with Justin Sun. His mind was made up and there was nothing we could say to convince him. In fact, he ejected the witnesses and installed his own so that he could actually run the chain however he pleased. He stole the stake of a lot of people in a way to make people bend over, and the Community just had to stand for itself. So we forked

Sun didn't think we'd fork, in fact not a lot of people think we'd do.

They probably felt we'd keep fighting until we could beat Sun in his own game. This was a billionaire whose crippled project was doing well on coinmarket and was a known figure in the Crypto industry. He knew nothing about decentralization and community and we weren't going to win even with people like Vitalik interfering.

He had connections with CZ Binance and took over the witnesses with his help. Forking was the ultimate blow to Sun and here's why we have Hive. So even if steem looks is still standing, as all know there's not been an innovation there since the Fork in 2020. It's a typical example of what I told them, my friend. You just have to find creative ways to fight and survive.

The need to survive creates ingenuity.

People may not think they were originally created with the tools to survive, sometimes our natural state makes us dependent on the expected goodwill of others, but unfortunately, we cannot expect others to synch or fall in line with our expectations. Justin Sun didn't want what we wanted for Steemit. He had a grander plan. Something he realistically believed was best for him. Finally, a community to revive his dead Tron Blockchain. This would be beneficial for him in the long run but would be a fatality for the community and its stakeholders.

Being Selfish is not A Bad Thing Entirely

This means that people might let you down because they're fighting their own battles, and if you can't survive on your own then there might be nothing left to save when someone comes by. Apps like Splinterlands eventually switched over to Hive and in 2021 the game created some of web3 biggest gaming millionaires in the crypto space, but if there was nothing like Hive, splinterlands wouldn't be here either. You need to first survive so that you'll have a chance to be worth saving.

I just came across this post and decided to read it. Even though it´s 10 days old, this post hit me. I have just learned why Hive was forked and how it all happened.
This is what happens when people are selfish, all they want is their gain without considering others if they would benefit or not, but I love how the community stood up for themselves and never wanted someone who would speak for them when they have their voices to do that. That was a selfish act from Sun.

And yes, no one will help you if you do not stand up to fight for yourself. Everyone is busy fighting their battles and does not have time for others, even if they do, it is just for a little while and you are back to being you and you alone.

Thanks for the update friend, joining you to wish hive a happy birthday. I wasn't there by then but it was a resilient fight indeed.

Yes it really was.

Although a shitty name at that

Hive is actually a pretty okay name, I think. I can't imagine Hive having being called something else. In fact, I think Hive is a much better name than Steemit. The name Hive sort of symbolises a comunity (Bee Hive). I don't know what the hell Steemit symbolises. Lol

This was a very insightful read, man.

Although, I've seen many people mention that CZ helped Sun enforce the hostile takeover, I don't really understand how he helped him.

Yes it's not a shitty name per se, but it's generic. We have another "HIVE" out there and this makes it bad for marketing and identification. But, I guess at that time the name symbolized the unity and resilience of the community.

CZ was pals with Sun allowed Sun access to people's Sun so he could install his own socket witnesses

Interesting. So like you'd have your steem on Binance but you couldn't get access to it?

I wish I had been around in the early days, maybe I could have been a Splinterlands millionaire! I've really heard the JS story from all of you who were around then on Steem. JS sounds like a real asshole though!

How have you been doing?

I had the opportunity, to join splinterlands but we really did underate splinterlands. I guess it wasn't that alone. Most people weren't really gamers, and splinterlands outdid any web3 game in 2021. It makes that magic feels like meeting that 2021 expectations might be a lot to ask of splinterlands. I invested in some projects that messed up, pysfberx was probably one of them and we didn't invest in projects that could have done it. BRO and splinterlands for example.
Justin Sun was a ruthless one.

A lot of people are betting on Holozing, I may be too skeptical on it, but I just don't see it being a huge success. I hope I'm wrong because I have many friends betting big on it! They really need to build a non card related game, live action or something more interesting.

Lives action game maybe take a look of resources. So for Holozo it might attach a relative sucess because the people behind it are tokenomics geniuses except the holders begins to sell too much and tank the price of the token. Either way, I was just too depressed, else I could have also bought into it when it came out. Only the bull market will tell.

I still haven't bought in heavy, I'm skeptical. There are just so many cool live action play to earns that I worry card battlers may slowly die out.

For me, if it's not splinterlands, then I'm not playing. I think no game on hive will outdo splinterlands. It's just the way it is..

For now maybe, hopefully something new and exciting will come along!

How has your health been as well?

I play it day by day, some are good others suck. Nothing else to do but keep moving until I drop dead! Hopefully not any time too soon though! How about you?

I went to a clinic to run some blood test and it wasn't bad, I'm thankful for this. The specialist here care too much about money than one's health, so you have to be your own advocate and also take care of yourself. I'm trying in all aspects to do this. I'm back home now, today had me thinking about my brother, a fear tears here and there, the pain hits and I can't control my anxiety and pain.

I'm sorry to hear that, anxiety and pain are horrible. I deal with both too. It's hard to lose someone close like you did.

At least your tests weren't bad on the bright side!

No one truly understands, a lot of people are locked up in their cocoons so much that they think they can relate to your pain.

I hear you, and unless people are sick they often forget that life is finite and live as if they're immortal. It's too bad that so many people are that way, fortunately it's not everybody.

True, you're right. Life sometimes put people in positions where they think a particular thing cannot happen to them. Creates this infallibility mindset..

Wow
Are you trying to say that Hive was a community on Steemit before?
I was always thinking that Hive and Steemit were built together
That’s amazing

Awww happy birthday hive

You just have me an assignment to go and understudy the history of hive. I must say that I haven't read anything on this. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for reading

Your post took me back in time and the creation of Hive was a nice step taken by the Hive community that showed great strength!
Nice post that will be very helpful to those who were not there when the hard fork happened.
Like you I have been disappointed on projects like psyberx which I thought could be a great project but so far it has been very disappointing!
There are other interesting projects in development like Holozing for example and I hope there will be another game in the future that can repeat what Splinterlands did in 2021

It's great to reminisce all the way back how the Hive fork happened. It was a revolutionary time for Hive and it was also good to see that I witnessed it.
Thank you, it was good to actually write the post since it's Hive's 4th birthday.
I have been truly disappointed in psyberx. The hype was because people who invested in it was because they didn't want to miss out just like they missed out on splinterlands. I should have channel that money somewhere else and you can't even sell those useless box.

Hopefully we can get other good projects.

I wasn't around for the Steem days but it does sound like quite a fight. I am glad that Hive broke off and became it's own thing. After all, I have only been on Hive and I think it's a great place to be.

It was an iconic period for the chain and we lauded the Hive witnesses for the job then, it was a really historic moment

I remember when this blade farm came out and when people were not happy working on steemit anymore then they came over to this platform and it became so much better now this platform is more than that platform at that time. It is popular and people love to use it.
