One Year Of Playing Splinterlands

About a year ago I contacted @joetunex about splinterlands. I think I had about 900$ and wanted to throw it in. Maybe I was way in over my head, maybe I wasn't. But deep down I felt like I was missing out, so I bought into this FOMO and that was how it began.

Back then I think the SPS airdrop was in the 4th month or thereabout and I bought about 88k DEC. I bought a few untamed cards as well, and if I looked back, I think the most relevant of these cards are the Djinn Oshannus and the Neutral melee card Sandworm.

I wasn't firstly interested in playing the game and this was probably because I was more excited about the DEC that was going to be airdropped.

It was a whole new world; I mean, learning strategies both in-game and in the economy. I had to read on my own after Joe did an incredulous job of schooling me.

I think we spent weeks going through which cards were good for beginners, which card was cheap but had a massive impact or utility on the battlefield, I think my spellbook came with some basic cards, I had this massive OG summoner, that I sold for $50 and bought other cards.

Every card I bought was purely Joe's ideas, and back then a Djinn Oshannus was 39$, I think a living Lava went as high as 20$, I did buy some of these relevant cards and was playing with the basic cards I had at my disposal.

Chaos Legion: A Smart Decision

Learning the abilities of the cards, how the summoners functioned and how the attack types took weeks. But after playing for a while, I decided to throw in that extra $400 to buy the Chaos legion packs.

This was because I wanted to grow my deck while earning SPS at the same time. I figured out that if I kept buying cards I might make the wrong choice, so I decided to let the system do that for me, I already had a few untamed cards and adding them up up chaos cards would make it easier to compete.

I kept building my collection Power until it got to 20k. I would say I've made progress, this is because I've grown in one year of playing, and having more resources might show this.

Loss Or Long-term

Although my deck is four times lower than the actual investment at the moment, but whose deck on splinterlands isn't? A djinn Oshannus for example is about $5 at the moment, but I wouldn't measure the dollar value, because I've won games which I've gotten a couple of decent hauls of DEC by using that sea beast, it's hard for you to equate that value because most times, we calculate the dollar value before utility.

However, I can't say I've taken any Profit, all has gone into reinvesting into the cards, but what I mostly do at the moment is to sell some vouchers, buy back hive, and power up a bit. This gives me a feeling of profit because voucher is an aspect of the game's economy that's been doing well.

The Advantage Of "OGing"

I mean, win or lose, I pretty much don't care. The thing is that splinterlands thrilled me, I mean, everyone jumped at DEFI a year ago, not really knowing how it would work, the fact that they were going to contribute to a pool and earn was exciting and this is how it was, I wouldn't say splinterlands was a new game, it's been here as steemmonsters in the steemit days.

But we must all agree then that #play2earn wasn't really a thing back in 2018, and the excitement for me was creating Another opportunity for myself. I must say that early adoption is both risky and potentially rewarding.

The players who bought into splinterlands are currently the real OGs, and the truth is they're rewarded mostly for their intuitive ability at discovering what might become "the thing" years later.

The blockchain is a place of opportunity and diversification, and one cannot afford to sleep on all these opportunities, I think a lot of people understood this.

So it's a year of playing splinterlands for me, and it's been exciting, the learning experience has been amazing and I've found time to adapt to all the constant changes that have been coming to the game, recently the game has gotten massive traction, players are putting more skin in the game and I'll like to see how this pay off unfolds once the market begins to boom again.

I also invested during the FOMO season. I even bought packs, even though a lot are advising to build our deck first, hoping that I would get a GF legendary. 😁
I also saved almost all of my reward cards and I am now holding a 50k Power deck of cards.

!1UP

I think buying the packs were more advantageous because if you were intending to play, then definitely you'll need all the cards that are inside the pack, this was another way which I built my deck though.

50k CL is amazing, which league are you currently playing in?

I used to play the Modern Gold III League.
Currently out of the battle field the whole season renting my cards trying to build up my summoners. 😊

That is milestone you have reached definitely 😁 incredible performance. I would also want to join splinterland soon

I believe you have done well so far and all you need to do just keep building, I believe splinterlands will pay off at the end of the day

Yeah, I want to think I've done well, especially because I want to be ready even if it's in a small way for when the market will eventually bloom, how about you, still playing?

Lol I can't help but laugh reading your one year anniversary post. Yeah those move on Djinn was a FOMO I jumped in when Chaos Legion launched amongst other cards which have all dipped but like you are mention better not to look at the dollar value now, reading Splinterlands TH yesterday the developments in the works are just crazy to assimilate all at once. I am hopeful Splinterlands still has a lot of benefit to offer us.

A lot has changed in a year in the game, the competitiveness is crazy but we still going.

Happy one year anniversary Jose.

Yeah those move on Djinn was a FOMO

Hahaha that is absolutely true I mean.. but I needed to spend that Money because I had to play, I think the value in these assets have dipped the truth is that I'm not scared because like you said, the innovations coming to splinterlands is just humongous, there's no way we'd be losers at the end of the day. Thanks man for everything.

It's quite interesting how you took your time before going all in. You just gave a pretty good example of how getting the information right before investing is profitable.

Well, I majorly FOMO'ed and because of this, I actually made a lot of mistakes and accrued some losses. But then, I've managed to keep playing and stacking some cards as well. I think the future is bright.

It is all about the price swings of the overall crypto market. Splinterlands assets performed better than the other play-to-earn games. Now you are advanced in the learning curve and will take advantage of the next bull run better than the newbies.

This is absolutely true, I was taking a look at AXL and other game tokens and I discovered some splinterlands assets are doing really well. And I'm accumulating because I want to also benefit from the next bull run. Thanks a million.

Everyone's deck is down but it's too bad that you invested around the time of all the FOMO. At some point, the cards may go back up in price and I would not be surprised to see it when things go out of print. The only thing that I am worried about is whether or not older cards that have little use cases in fights will have other things added to it

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Yeah I invested when all that FOMO was in vogue but then, that was exactly when I was buying all the cards and all. But then, another good move was investing into CL and I think it's paid off irrespective of the market. I'm hoping older cards might maintain their value because it's important. Thanks a lot, I'm hoping to keep playing.

You have really come a long way in certainly the game and so much you have spend on it

Yeah, it's been a while, I'm glad to have come this far.

Congrats on your first year in SPL!.

With SPL, its actually quite hard to tell if you actually lost money. Yes, your deck value has gone down heaps due to the market conditions, but how about the SPL posts that you made? Should that be counted as part of your portfolio value? or the SPS airdrops?

Being on Hive and posting actively, trying to count ROI is almost impossible as there are so many viable sources. This article alone will net you at least $40 + compounding........ Keep chugging along and keep posting :)

It's difficult to calculate ROI like you've said, I don't nogbally do so. I had to talk about my deck because it's part of my experience.

My POV regarding Sl was, I am not into games so I am not interested in the game. Apparently time changes and I am knee deep in SL atm. Both financially and in terms of enjoying the tasks as well!

I think in the long run blockchain gaming will work out better than just defi because people love their cards, but no one really cares about numbers on the screen or APR.

This is true, gaming is exciting and I think people will embrace it more.

This game has created a big economy in Hive market and it has provided a lot of value to other tokens such pLeo and tokens in diesel pools for LP.
I hope you've got about 1000% more return.

Congrats on your 1 year anniversary it must be a great moment to remember.

!PIZZA

I haven't got anything back in return, rather I've lost x4 of my portfolio due to the dip of the market entirely. But I'm optimistic that the future is bright and I can still make back those losses and even more.

I mean SPS airdrop had you covered of losses, didn't it? I think the SPS was hit badly due to BTC crash, it was like over 0.30$ back then.

It's a great milestone in splinterland arena. More win bro

Thanks a lot, it's been a learning process for me.

Congratulations on building your turf on Splinterlands. The economy has become more sustainable and gone back to trend. We will probably see another boom in a couple of years.

Thanks a lot, the cards you delegated me has been immense, I didn't know where I'd be without them basically. Thanks for the support.. you're right, we should see another boom in years to come, hopefully we're more prepared..

You're most welcome and if I have a spare copy of a card that you need, just let me know.

I appreciate your kind gesture, I'll definitely keep up.

I mean, win or lose, I pretty much don't care.

Me neither. I no longer even play it anymore. Or at least nowadays I play it very rarely. The last time I played it was seven days ago. I started playing it on 2018.12.30. Splinterlands was properly rewarding for playing in 2019. Maybe even in 2020, in 2021 too. But it became very bad in 2022. Too much time for too little rewards. I can spend hours playing every day to earn a few cents, if I am lucky. Not worth it. Nowadays, instead of playing, I automatically leasing out my Splinterlands cards with Splex.GG, but even my rental income is dropped in the previous few days. And the value of my card collection too.

Either way, good luck and have fun, if you play it.

Well, you're right, it's become less rewarding in 2022, even I think I'll even get tougher because people who have money are bringing in the money into the game and taking the competition to a high level, I guess it's why it's become like this. Anyways. I just want to play and accumulate especially for when the the economy will bloom so as to take profit. Good luck to you as well with the renting.
