Recently, I was looking for a house to rent and it turned out that most of the landlords we went to their houses were so bent on knowing what I and a friend do for a living. Some of them even went as far as saying they won't give us the house for rent if we're not working 9 to 5 and earning a monthly salary as the continuity of that salary would determine if we'd be able to pay the rents per annum.
This was hysterical and saddening at the same time, the reason was that it's painful that some people are living on web1, the reason I call them web1ers is because they don't even know the concept of the internet, not to talk of how to use it or it's capabilities.
They don't understand what it means to have a virtual personality online, or build a business online, the ignorance alone, made me term them as* web1ers* as they seem to be existing in the stone age.
The Web1 Analogy
Building a digital skill or base on the internet is the future and this is because of how the world is being revolutionized by the internet. After the pandemic, it became obvious that the world can crumble if people cannot apply the technological advancement of the internet to get things done.
Let's not even get to the complexities of making money online just yet. During the pandemic, there was a realization that we were going to experience restrictions, and the concept of building one's personality on the internet became the only way to influence commerce and socialization.
So if people can order things online through Jumia or konga grom their homes without moving an inch from their homes, how come they've mentally restricted the functionalities of the internet?
The Mental Constriction
It's simple, a lot of people are still ignorant and uninformed. While this can be influenced by the mindset of their geographical location, it's also important to note that these people are mentally restricting themselves due to their inability and unwillingness to create an innovative application for themselves.
At the moment, I do not have digital skills, but I consider myself a digital hustler, what this means is that I'm continuously meandering from one online-based opportunity to another, getting myself acquainted with the technical jargon related to these opportunities, and doing things differently than other people would.
Now I might have sold myself short a little bit, but then the main point I was trying to make was that I'm a learner, I've learned things along the way that's changed my financial conditioning.
Dare To Be More?
I was reading this post by @finguru and it amazes me how a little spark of creativity can go a long way. It reminded me of how I started doing crowdsourcing gigs back in the day and how the owners of these gigs would recommend me for other gigs due to how I could apply a little creativity to doing things differently.
The internet is filled with digital hustlers, people looking to build their business online, and people looking to digitize their real-time skills to an endless audience.
Many people are already real-time failures by entwining themselves to competitiveness in the world already. This is due to their inability to get things done. I must tell you that so many people have been revitalized by the internet due to being creative and instinctively valuable.
Transformed Or Deformed By The Trend Of Change?
Khabe Lame, was one of those people who had their lives transformed during the pandemic. You must understand that the finances of some people got shittier after the pandemic and the finances of some others got better.
The difference is tapping from opportunities that go beyond the physical and mental restrictions, or succumbing to the lack and wants that come with these restrictions.
What I use to say is that people are responsible for their financial situations and sometimes it's important to be unique, hungry for knowledge and information that can forestall development. The internet is endless, its vastness is increasing daily with the numerous opportunities and the creative people are the one's that will take it all.
