Witnessing Evolution: The Battle For Control & Freedom

So I was born during the times when ignorance was a "thing" During these periods, people only knew "consequences", because that was mostly the result of ignorance.

The enlightenment to change a situation and crawl out of that "ignorance" cocoon was always difficult. It was even harder to seek knowledge because of the lack of sophistication.

Knowledge was thought to be expensive, (it was) hence its accessibility became limited to an aspect of affordability. Back in the day, people were limited to the knowledge that was accessible to them, and they didn't even strive to seek it.

When it came to monetary costs, people became very unwilling.

One of the reasons was that people spent most of their time working for money, unlike now when it's the other way round.

It's understandable, for you to have access to life-changing knowledge, the cost was always unimaginable, but this is mostly because people saw money as the only cost that they needed to pay to be truly enlightened.

This created a huge gulf between people of different classes, thereby, creating segregation in the process. Being rich or being poor was assigned to people by default; based on their educational level or the financial background of their parents.

Back in the day, people had to wait in line to be successful.

It is either you're writing one job application or another, waiting by the radio for announcements of job opportunities by lucrative companies, that's if your family was reputable enough to give you an education.

Back then, having money had a rigid principle of causality. People do not get rich by mistake, you cannot gamble and win a million dollars, even if you were previously a nobody.

Success came in transition, you had to undergo due process and this wasn't just daring alone, it was expensive. Success or failure wasn't entirely dependent on one, where they came from played a huge role.

To have money, there had to be a line of succession.

If your grandparents were wealthy people, there's a huge tendency that you'll be successful as a person as well, if you put in little effort and allow your familial reputation to do the rest.

he competition was minimal because it felt like people knew where they belong and never struggled to leave there. However, this mentality wasn't entirely their fault.

The world around them was structurally limiting, there was no breaking bound, because of this it was difficult to see a default "low classer" breaking into the upper echelon.

This was one of the reasons why systems of governments like feudalism and monarchy thrived.

There was hardly any form of inclusion, being born black for example made one underprivileged.

Being born by a commoner makes you a commoner. This structural system created unfair exploitation. However, even the people who were unfairly treated were contented and this reduced the competition.

So, people were either rich or poor due to the hierarchical standing of their background. Nobody was fighting to snatch a position from another person, and it created an unimaginable gulf in class.

Exposure & Connection

So, because of the classification system, exposure was limited to those with means and this got them the needed connections. Some of these people choose to be educated in Europe and come back to their country to take political positions or automatically slot into a lucrative bank job.

Some of the wealthiest people in Nigeria inherited a solid standing from their ancestors, solid business positions, and multimillion opportunities based on whose great-grandchildren they were.

Although it's now different, still, people still get special treatment and unfair connections by just being affiliated with wealthy and influential people in the past.

The connection and class system has broken.

Nowadays, the cost is minimal, accessibility is cheaper, and the sources and outlets of knowledge have become simpler.

This automatically means that everyone is evenly exposed unless they choose not to be enlightened. Accessibility to the internet alone gives unimaginable access to a huge chunk of information you need to thrive in life.

Nowadays, it's easier for people to break bounds, irrespective of their foundation, educational background, or connection level. The world is currently unpredictable and this is because of the expansion of the human race in almost every sector of life.

Technology has made things easier in a lot of different ways. This makes it much easier to get connected to people but at the same time, it has made it more competitive as well. There are pros and cons to all of that happening but I do agree that we are more free due to that.

Exactly, technology and sophistication has given us a lot of Freedom and people have more opportunities nowadays, the possibilities of succeeding is now higher than it was in the past

Those ages where really like the default dark ages in regards to be informed and it still lingers in some parts of the world. Nowadays, you can be born a peasant and die a king if you want to. The prospect seems exciting to me but it is a long and uneasy process because one is breaking away from generational shackles.

Nowadays, you can be born a peasant and die a king if you want to.

Exactly, that's the exact way to actually define it. Back in the day, this wasn't the case. When you're born a slave, it might take almost everything for one not to remain like that forever. We're grateful for sophistication as well as technology.

Very grateful! I somehow feel that to a certain extent we're now able to write our own destiny with the empowerment of sophisticated technology.

I think the advancement of technology will mostly benefit the common man and his quest to change his destiny

The world has changed a lot. No longer do where you come from, where you are born or who gave birth to you limit you, unless, of course, you decide to limit yourself. It is easier to get information nowadays and upgrade your status, however, some people are still locked in this ignorance which is sad considering how evolve the world is presently

I believe things are changing even though we have people whose connections make them who they are today things are now changing not because of people don't buy into the idea of connection again but work system is changing. We now have some remote work that pays better.

Exactly, we now have systems where people are now enjoying the idea of connection lesser than they used to. It's why I'm happy to be part of this growing generation. The previous ones were really backwards

The greatest wealth is having the knowledge and understanding of how to create wealth. In such a scenario, a person can lose their monetary wealth, only to rebuild it rather quickly. The reason... their true wealth is knowledge and a developed intelligence. It's your number-one asset when it comes to physical wealth, security, and independence.

Exactly, the knowledge to create wealth is an individual's greatest assets. In this generation, this has been tremendously encouraged. Value adjudication in the previous generations was terrible, people couldn't own their lives, and do with it what they want. We're thankful for sophistication and exposure

Excellent post, the internet and cryptos are slowly going to even the playing field between the rich and poor. Just like the post office, we shall need less of banks as we enter into the crypto dispensation. Bitcoin and decentralized cryptos like hive will bring lots of freedom in the days ahead. You can be your own bank and transact any day or time. No need for 5 working days or managerial approval to perform transactions. The future will be awesome.
Thank you for sharing and keep enjoying your week :}

Crypto is levelling the playing field like you've said and that's why the US government is fighting it really hard. Those guys there are obsessed with power and hardly wants to give Freedom to the people. But they'll fail disastrously with their anti-crypto thing.

Knowledge was thought to be expensive,

I have the feeling that you were born in the time when the saying "knowledge is power" thrived. Now, that quote has changed for the better.

This post is a clear indication that times have changed. Now adays, you could see successful people who didn't come from a rich background. And also, the value of knowledge doesn't necessarily have to be monetary. I can't count the number of things that I learnt without paying

And also, the value of knowledge doesn't necessarily have to be monetary.

Exactly, infact some of the biggest Values that impacts our lives aren't really monetary. I believe this because of the experiential knowledge I've come to garner over these years. This generation comes with it's disadvantages, true, but it's advantages outweighs the disadvantage.

Yeah, with advantages always come disadvantages..I'm glad this generation is actually doing relatively better than the former when it comes to technology and the likes.

I heard someone say the reason he didn't make it was because he didn't have the connections that those who made it did. But it's not true. The world has evolved way more than such myopic mindset. The internet has provided us with a chance. Yes, we may not all become billionaires even if the same opportunities are provided, but we have a fighting chance. Everyone does. And when we let go of the mindset that things have to be handed to us for us to succeed, we'll have that chance of succeeding.

Well, I must tell you that a lot of people close to me also said the same thing. It's true that life can be competitive, but when you're healthy, agile and able-bodied, even if you're not educated or have a promising background. The 21st century has made life accessible and we just have to fight to take it. Like you said, it might not be in billions or all that but at least, a comfortable life that can guarantee stability

A comfortable, debt-free life. That's the whole idea. Sometimes I wonder where you get the inspiration to write things like this. But it's good you do cause everyone needs to learn that the key to their dreams is just a click away. If only they can see it.

I did have this mindset that it's difficult because of the excessive competition in life. But I know that over time I can achieve a decent life, a small family and nothing outrageous. As for writing, well, let's just say life, money and personal experiences are my muse, so over time I've cut my teeth doing it.

This automatically means that everyone is evenly exposed unless they choose not to be enlightened. Accessibility to the internet alone gives unimaginable access to a huge chunk of information you need to thrive in life.

This is true. But even still with equal or almost equal access to information, the opportunity to thrive is still more rigged towards well-connected people and money is a very strong tendon. That is why even if the poor and rich class both find and apply for local scholarships in my country, the beneficiaries of the scholarship are chosen long before they even call the applicants for interviews.

Being born by a commoner makes you a commoner. This structural system created unfair exploitation.

The system is still like this and will always stay like that. Unless a miracle happens to push you out of a commoner class and into the rich, or a disaster happens to bankrupt someone that was born into a rich family, chances are that you'll stay in the class you were born into. It'll take these and hard work (in the case of the poor) or careless spending (in the case of the rich) to change your standing in the societal money hierarchy. The unfairness is all a part of life.

I think the people who are not well-connected now have a fighting chance, this wasn't so in the past, the opportunity can still be rigged, but everyone now has a better chance and that's why the power of sophistication is more likely to be enjoyed by the next generation.

The system is still like this and will always stay like that.

Well, we cannot futuristically say. It can still change. I feel that life's getting better by the day. The system was terrible back in the day. As a person born in the 90s I experienced this and I can tell that that sophistication and human development tends to level the playing field in so many ways.
